During the past 2 years we have tried just about all the hotels near the UVA campus, and I have to say this is my favorite so far.
It is located 2 miles north of center grounds on Rt. 29, 0.2 miles north of Barracks Road Shopping Center and opposite the Red Lobster. The building is 4 storeys high. Access is through the main door by reception only, and this door is locked later in the evening for security reasons.
Rooms are a good size, clean and modern with pleasant decor. They are surprisingly well appointed with cable TV (incl. free HBO), free internet and local phone calls, fridge, microwave, coffee machine, iron & ironing board and an in-room safe for valuables. Pets are permitted for a nominal charge.
There is also a complimentary breakfast in a room off the lobby which included the usual bagels, cereals and English muffins, but also make your own waffles. Complimentary coffee, tea, cocoa and fresh popped popcorn are available in the lobby in the afternoon and evening.
These things are lovely, but I need a good night's sleep, and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was also good with plenty of hot water and a Waterpik massaging showerhead and curved shower rod to give more space in the tub. Towels were fluffy and plentiful. The vanity had plenty of space for toiletries and there was a full length mirror with decent lighting for putting on makeup.
The only thing this hotel does not have is a beautiful view (I know some people complained of this). My main concern is that I can open the curtains and get some daylight without people looking in. This was the case. You're overlooking the hotel parking lot and the back of a nearby bank building, but you are set back off Rt. 29 so there is no traffic noise.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
