We stayed one night here on our way to Williamsburg. The clerk at Check-in seemed a bit irritable at first, but quickly warmed up. The room was very clean. The pillows kept going flat all night, so they constantly had to be flipped over. Nice stay, otherwise. Nothing too fancy, though.

When we arrived at the Comfort Inn we found it to be tucked in behind a Canes Chicken Restaurant. Parking on the left side was fine, but the parking on the right side had many construction trucks parked there. We found the front desk clerk to be very pleasant and she even followed up with a call to our room to see if everything was fine. There was a little mildew around the tub caulk, but other than that the room was clean. The bed was not as comfortable as we had hoped, but it slept well. The hotel in general had been recently repainted and carpeted.

During the night we got woke up around 2:00 AM by a neighbor playing the TV too loud. After falling back asleep finally, we got reawakened at 6:00 AM by the same neighbors alarm clock radio. I have come to believe that the walls are too thin as this hotel is very old. The breakfast was just a continental style with not much to offer. The high-Speed Wireless Internet worked flawlessly.

“Just O.K. -- Comfort Inn”

I am just back from a trip to Shenandoah National Park and had a stop over in Charlottesville, VA. I planned the trip at the last minute so I felt lucky to get a hotel reservation at all. It seemed that everything was booked that night. When I arrived, I heard that there was a Rod Stewart concert in town. Anyway, the hotel is right on the main highway and difficult to get in and out easily since there is high speed traffic right at the entrance. However, in its favor, the hotel is set back from the road which cuts down on the noise. In front of the hotel is a fast food place --chicken fingers, I think. This is not the loveliest of spots for a motel -- but it might be convenient for the U of VA crowd. Our room was on the first floor. Mostly everything was in working order -- yet I thought the place was a bit shabby. There were some marks on the walls, some chips in the furniture, the smell of powder spray to mask odors, etc. In the bathroom there was a small area above the shower that had been leaking and was not properly repaired. The stopper in the tub was also broken and askew. Nothing terrible, just as I said, a little upkeep would have gone a long way. The room did have a microwave and small refrigerator. The free breakfast wasn't anything to write home about either. It was the usual motel freebie -- toast, bagels, mini danish, cold cereal, fruit, make-it-yourself waffles. The one 'stand out' was that they had low carb items for people who need to watch their carb count. They had hard-boiled eggs, cheese chunks, yogurt, peanut butter and low carb bread. This is a nice service to those who have health issues with the high carb stuff in most breakfast buffets. Also, there is a great Indian restaurant right outside the door and a few steps down the street. It is called Milan and we ate there because it was so convenient. An extra bonus was the food -- it was not too expensive and really tasty. I would recommend you try it if you are staying at this motel and you like Indian food (or are adventurous enough to try it). All in all, this Confort Inn isn't the worst place you could stay -- but not the best either. I rate it -- just O.K.

“Great hotel choice when visiting UVA”

During the past 2 years we have tried just about all the hotels near the UVA campus, and I have to say this is my favorite so far.

It is located 2 miles north of center grounds on Rt. 29, 0.2 miles north of Barracks Road Shopping Center and opposite the Red Lobster. The building is 4 storeys high. Access is through the main door by reception only, and this door is locked later in the evening for security reasons.

Rooms are a good size, clean and modern with pleasant decor. They are surprisingly well appointed with cable TV (incl. free HBO), free internet and local phone calls, fridge, microwave, coffee machine, iron & ironing board and an in-room safe for valuables. Pets are permitted for a nominal charge.

There is also a complimentary breakfast in a room off the lobby which included the usual bagels, cereals and English muffins, but also make your own waffles. Complimentary coffee, tea, cocoa and fresh popped popcorn are available in the lobby in the afternoon and evening.

These things are lovely, but I need a good night's sleep, and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was also good with plenty of hot water and a Waterpik massaging showerhead and curved shower rod to give more space in the tub. Towels were fluffy and plentiful. The vanity had plenty of space for toiletries and there was a full length mirror with decent lighting for putting on makeup.

The only thing this hotel does not have is a beautiful view (I know some people complained of this). My main concern is that I can open the curtains and get some daylight without people looking in. This was the case. You're overlooking the hotel parking lot and the back of a nearby bank building, but you are set back off Rt. 29 so there is no traffic noise.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

“adequate”

Note: there are two Comfort Inns in Charlottesville. This is the one on Route 29, not the one just off of Interstate 64. This property is rather hidden, which means it is quiet, despite being in a busy area of town. Other than that, there is not much to recommend it. It's getting old; the rooms are well-worn and small. Bathroom needed renovation badly. Good Indian restaurant called Milan just in front. Nice lobby and continental breakfast, and close to UVA. Stayed here one night and at Holiday Inn - University (just next door) one night. Holiday Inn was cheaper and much, much nicer.
