Your typical Courtyard. Nothing remarkable.
I recently stayed at this property for an overnight while in Charlottesville on business. I booked three rooms for my colleagues and I through the hotel - we were given rooms that were scattered all about (not near each other), but that wasn't really a big deal.
The hotel itself is pretty nice, with an inviting lobby area housing a fireplace, numerous couches and chairs, the breakfast area, and a couple of computers w/ free internet (a nice resource). The courtyard in the middle of the hotel looked nice, although I didn't really get a great peek at it (it was raining most of our stay), and the fitness equipment in the workout room was slightly above average (nice new treadmills - guests get in free at the local Gold's Gym for more robust workouts).
The rooms had two queens in them (what was available at the lowest price), and were decorated with bright, modern colors. I actually wasn't a huge fan of the bright blues and yellows on the carpet, bedding, etc, plus the uber-white lights used throughout the room, but at least it was all seemingly the product of a recent renovation so it appeared new. With more than a few lights on it got very bright in there and wasn't really a warm color scheme (for those that care). A nice sized balcony accompanied the room as well, and the bathroom area was adequate. The bed was extremely soft and comfortable and I had a very pleasant sleep.
Overall, I'd probably recommend this to pretty much anyone. It's a fairly versatile property with an indoor pool and some business needs. Located pretty much in the heart of Hwy 29, one of Charlottesville's main drags, it's convenient to pretty much anywhere in town.

My family (husband and two teen boys) stayed here for the new years weekend, three nights, from 12/30/07 to 1/1/08. The personnel were very professional and accomodating. We had a winery package for our first night's stay and the next two nights were on points. I would recommend the winery - Delfosse. I would also recommend this hotel. We stay here as a family almost every time we visit Charlottesville, which is about 3 or 4 times each year. Have not had a bad experience here ever.
I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriot in Charlottesville for business. The room was clean and typical of other Courtyard's I have stayed at. The hotel has a parking garage you can park in. There were cookies at the front desk for check in. The front desk staff was very nice and efficient. I had requested a refrigerator in my room and there was one in the room. The hotel has an indoor pool and fitness room. I walked down to look at them but did not get time to use them.
The hotel is right in town in walking distance to the University of Virginia. It is a very pretty town with little stores/boutiques and small sandwich shops, etc. The campus is nicely landscaped and was nice to take a walk around in the evening.
The historic distance is a short drive away, but I was unable to go see it due to work. There was also a shopping center about 10 minutes away (driving) that had fast food, sit down restaurants, and a grocery store.

Unlike many of the other posters, I was satisfied with my stay at the Courtyard. It's true that the hallways are very long -- I, too, couldn't have been farther from the lobby, and the local restaurants are mostly typical American chain places -- but in general, it was fine. The room was clean, and the staff was more than courteous. Internet access was free and worked fine. My bed was facing the television, although that didn't much matter to me as I don't watch a lot of TV. No complaints here!
