The inn was built by a friend of Thomas Jefferson. Our room was large, lovely and very comfortable. The owners are helpful and pleasant. Some exceptional restaurants are within easy walking distance.

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful stay at the Dinsmore. The staff is friendly and gave us wonderful recommendations for things to do and places to eat. The evening social with wine and cheese is a great touch. The beds are very comfortable and the full breakfast every morning is delightful! The Dinsmore made our stay in Charlottesville one to remember!
This B&B is in an excellent location. It is right on the edge of the UVA campus and is a short five-block walk or trolley ride to the historic downtown/pedestrian mall. It is a 10-15 minute drive from Monticello.
The owners are very friendly and accommodating. They were very helpful with tips on where to eat, what to see, etc. Every morning you are served a full breakfast (ie crepes, waffles, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, coffee, juice, and the like). Each afternoon they provide wine, cheese, fruit, and cookies. The rooms all have DVD players and there is a large selection of DVD's that you can borrow. We had to check out early our last day, and they packed us a breakfast to go.
The Dinsmore house was built in the 1800's and has a neat history and character. The rooms are well decorated and comfortable. We stayed in the Madison room. The room had a king size bed with a comfortable mattress and two easy chairs.
If there is one drawback, and it is a minor one, it is that the bathrooms seem ready for a remodel. However, with the energy and effort that the owners have put into this place, I'm sure it will happen soon.

Business service (e.g., internet access)A girlfriend and I escaped to Charlottesville for a pre-Christmas shopping trip this past November and just loved it! The Dinsmore house was the greatest location for us - between the downtown shopping walking mall and the bigger box stores we wanted to see.
The owners were such lovely people and they graciously offered us wine, cheese, and made our dinner reservations nearby. Later she even helped us pick out a DVD to take back upstairs with us. What gems!
The rooms were also well-appointed and were historic but with a very comfortable atmosphere. And the breakfast - it was amazing.
I'd highly recommend this location. While we were there four other rooms were occupied - so book now. Their word is getting out.
