My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a two night stay (Sunday and Monday) at the Foxfield Inn, located in the beautiful rolling hills just a few minutes northwest of downtown Charlottesville. Our hosts, Mary Pat and John, made us feel completely at home and were quite attentive to our needs and questions about the area. Hot coffee was available before breakfast, and Mary Pat's breakfasts were superb (fresh fruit, omelets, pecan pancakes, a selection of juices). Our room was spacious and immaculate. We stayed in the Audubon room, which featured several J.J. Audubon prints, a very comfortable four poster bed, and a double jacuzzi bath. The dimmer switch on the lights in the bathroom is a nice touch. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and home to a variety of wildlife. During our all-too-brief stay, we saw deer, a gray fox, gray squirrels, chipmunks, goldfinches, blue jays, a hummingbird, a flicker, and a nuthatch. On our 2nd morning, we enjoyed a cup of coffee on a backyard bench in the shade of a huge white oak. We hope to have time to enjoy the outdoor hot tub on our next visit. This was a wonderful way to explore the Charlottesville area. We were 15 minutes from outstanding casual dining at Duner's, 30 minutes from Monticello, and 20-40 minutes from a host of wineries. For a 5 star picnic lunch, stop by the Greenwood Gourmet Deli in Crozet, pick up a delicious sandwich, and take it with you to the Veritas winery in Afton. The Foxfield Inn has it all - location, comfort, beauty, and delicious breakfasts.
