Bamian is an Afghan restaurant in Falls Church, Virginia. They occupy a building that used to be a Lonestar Steak house and have been there a little over a year. Last night my mother, husband and I ate at Bamian and it was a wonderful experience. Granted it was a monday so it was not crowded but the restaurant is large (space and partitions to accomodate banquets and receptions - server described how they handle the events)and there were probably 10 other tables occupied. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and cuisine, and culture. I would highly recommend everything we tried. The green tea was very flavorful - a subtle hint of lemon grass. We had the eggplant and leek & potato appetizers, the lamb rib, chicken breast, and chicken leg kebabs. Sides of grilled veg and pumpkin. The veg were good but a little boring. The pumpkin was great though. We also had the baklava (afghan version similar to the greek dessert pastry) and elephant ear. The baklava was great, but the elephant ear was again, a little boring. Definitely a place I'd recommend and visit again. Prices were also very reasonable, easy to find location and ample parking - which is impressive for restaurants in this area.
