Just completed two nights in a Villa room (Rm 999) at The Dewa (May 18-20, 2012). The hotel and facilities are quite nice but maybe a bit overpriced (I may be a bit jaded. See the ‘but’.) Good selection of toiletries. They even supplied 4 bottles of water instead of the usual two.
Breakfast was good. There was ample choice without being overwhelming. Eggs station too.
Did not eat dinner at the hotel but we found the Family Restaurant, next door, on the beach, as recommended by another post. Reasonably priced. Our chicken dish was good. Beef not so good (a bit chewy).
The beach itself is ok. At low tide, the beach is quite wide. And you can walk along the beach a fair distance. At high tide, you still have beach but the walk is more limited.
Now for the 'but'. Internet in the room was mostly non-existent. They seem to have multiple wifi spots but where our room was, the strongest signal (The Beach 1) would allow connection to the router but no internet access. This was mentioned to the staff each day (once to a senior staff). I was given some excuses (none of which made sense) and they said they would look into it but nothing ever happened. They did have wifi working in the lobby and the restaurant so we know it works. The only thing I can think of is that they didn't care.
The other connections available in the room were hit and miss. Signals were weak. The standard rooms may have wifi as they are closer to the lobby or restaurant.
It's hard to believe that we can't leave our computers at home, but this is life now.
I can recommend The Dewa. But if you really need your internet, and you want a Villa Room, write them first to confirm they have fixed the problem. Or at least do not upgrade to a Villa Room.
