We went to hotel Anixis on our honeymoon. It is a beautiful hotel, small, has only about twenty rooms. Our room had a humble four poster bed and a spectacular view. It is a family run hotel situated in the Kastro, high above the town, the views include the copper dome of the Metropolis Cathedral, the ionian gate and hora harbour. The rooms are clean, furnished with a fridge, a seating area, bed and ours included double glass doors out onto a balchony. It's a short walk to the water front and only a matter of a few steps to the medieval castle where they run wonderful concerts and feed the audience an endless supply of the local liqueur Citron. Whatever you do, do go to one of the castle concerts they are excellent. Our stay in Naxos was absolutely wonderful, the town of Hora is a full of twisting medieval streets, you do tend to get lost but that's all part of the charm. The local red wine is extremely light and delicious (it's the one with the red label, sells for €11 a bottle) and the local cheese is tasty. Check out the supermarket it's tucked back from the waterfront as you head towards the ionian gate, take a right up there somewhere you'll find it. On our way home we met an English woman who owns a house on Naxos, she's been visiting the island for over forty years, when we told her that we had stayed at hotel Anixis she said, 'very good. That's where all the locals tend to book there families into when they come to visit.' It really is a wonderful little hotel, reasonably priced, run by friendly unintrusive people, kept spic and span, brilliantly situated and quiet, no loud thumping nightclubs! Enjoy.
