It never got below 35C during the day in the last week of June. We'd chosen the Ikaros from our tour company's brochure because of the favourable reviews on TripAdvisor. Our experience was that the reviews were a little generous. The property is well-maintained, clean and attractive, but the rooms were quite small and the air conditioning was not THAT efficient making for some uncomfortable nights. Also the owners had, since we booked, changed the twin rooms to one with double beds so we had to share the same bed. They hadn't informed the tour company much before we departed. The property is on the edge of town, is 10 minutes walk from the beach (at these temperatures at least!), and the comments about the rubbish and tethered dog was correct, although it was more distressing to see the dog tied up like that than it was to hear it barking. In short, good basic Greek accommodation which, if you want serenity away from town, would be perfect.

I like small to medium size studio hotels with quiet exterior places for relaxing and friendly owners who care for their guests and dont see only money in their eyes. The Ikaros offered all this to me during my stay in May. It is located at the border of Chora but the down-town area and a supermarket are still in walking distance. It is for me the perfect hotel in Naxos. And I loved it very much to have every evening a small talk with the friendly family who owns the hotel.

We stayed 5 weeks at Ikaros Studios on a working vacation. The Grivas family who own the hotel could not have been more accommodating. Plus the hotel has broadband internet service which was very important for our choice. The hotel is in a quiet part of town that is about a 5 minute walk to St. George's Beach and equally to a large grocery store and bakery. The gardens are lovingly attended to by Katerina and Ioanni who will spend much time talking about the flowers, the fruit trees and the olive trees. The pool is well maintained and always spotless. The one issue we had was promptly attended to by management. An added benefit was they were able to help us sort through a car and scooter rental which were delivered to the hotel! Our attempt to rent one on our own was less than stellar and more expensive. The Grivas love their island and will spend as much time as you want telling you about places to go and how to get there. Our discussions with the other guests we met there reflected our experience as well so we weren't just lucky.

The Ikaros is located just away from the beach. However the roadway leading to and from the hotel is fronted by a public trash dump that was not cleaned while my fiance and I were there at the end of May. It was an absolute eye sore. Also, there is small abandoned hotel directly across from the Ikaros that also adds to the misery of the aesthetics. Our room was not cleaned every day and when it was a very shoddy job was done. The bathroom was tiny and the sink leaked throughout our stay. A dog that was tied to a two foot chain located on property across from the hotel barked incessently all night. This was without question the worst hotel of our Greek vacation. As a matter of fact it did not compare to the others. I would not stay at the Ikaros again. I would pay a little more for the Naxos Beach 1 or 2.
