I've been on lots of riding holidays in Spain, Canada and South America and I have to say this is one of the best, that's why i've been back nine times.
For me, a riding holiday is all about the quality & temperanent of the horses. How brilliant to arrive at Rancho Huerta del Batan to find that the horses are right there in the grounds (their stunningly handsome stallion, Fulanito, is next to the pool during the day - great eye candy while you're relaxing with a cool beer). The horses are well schooled, fit, and healthy and will carry you with confidence and pride. They are so clearly happy in their work.
The scenery encountered on the rides is spectacular, and varied, with lots of opportunities for exciting canters (when safe for horse & rider!) and splashing about in the rivers.
After the day's riding you can relax round the pool while Miranda prepares a wonderful lunch accompanied by generous free flowing wine! Later in the evening, if you've got the energy, it's a short walk into town where you can take in a variery of shops, and bars serving traditional tapas.
The apartments on the ranch are spacious and clean (not that you'll spend much time in them) with comfy beds, and nice hot showers. It's a gem of a place.
I've been several times on my own, and have met so many lovely people, many who have also been before with whom I still keep in touch. Giles & Miranda are the perfect hosts, their generousity, dedication and sense of humour is second to none.
This year I was lucky enough to be at the ranch while they were interviewed by spanish & Dutch television. We rode into town to be met by all the local spanish horsemen & women dressed in all their finery with immaculately turned out horses.(see photo). It was a very special day, and such an honour.
If you love horses, dogs, cats, spanish food, wine, and the beautiful Andalucian countryside (or just any of these) you can't go wrong here.
