Myself (20) and my partner (20) travelled here on the 28th May 2012 for 7 nights. After reading some of the previous reviews I was a bit sceptical about a few things - being on a main road, bar staff, food, entertainment....... but seriously I do not understand where those people got most of their experience from! They could not have been at the same hotel so. I apologise in advance if I write too much :)
Upon arrival, you are on a main road, but it's not directly on a main road. You do have the main road but then between that and the hotel you have another road which is used by very few cars. Even so whilst in the hotel you never notice you're by a main road until you look outside and say "oh yeah, I'm on a main road". You can't hear the traffic because its never that busy, the only thing we got were the bin collectors one morning about 9:30am. Whilst down by the pool side or on the bar terrace you don't hear the noise from the main road, you can't even tell.
The reception area is lovely, spacious and clean, it has the dinner area to your left and connects on to the bar area on your right. When taking the luggage upstairs (floor 2), the lifts were small but I've been in smaller. They are light and airy and its not like you're in them for long - unless you're on floor 7 (haha). Nothing to moan about though. My first impression when we got out of the lift was "why do they have carpet?". Tbh, I found it unusual because you normally see tiles throughout a hotel. The Haiti's carpet is a deep red and it is nice to walk on, also gives you peace of mind that you won't slip if you have wet feet. The cleaners wash and hoover the carpet everyday, but it's still got signs of usage. To me this didn't matter but I mention it because of peoples expectations. As long as it's clean and doesn't look tatty, should it matter?
The room was also lovely and clean. Only one thing to mention (doesn't bother me but I know it would others) but the tiny bit of rust on the ceiling above the shower (see pic), obviously with condensation you will get little bit like that but it's nothing major. You have maids every day changing your sheets, pillows, towels, cleaning the floor and bathroom etc etc. From our room, we had a gorgeous view (pool view)! I loved it. I have uploaded a few photos, you will see them on there. One thing about the room was the air conditioning, once it was on it only blew in one direction - the way it was facing - down. With the weather being around the late 20's, early 30's you would have thought you needed it blasting on you, but with the balcony door open it was fine. The beds were also comfy, apart from I hated falling between the two beds lol.
Food in the morning, day and night was gorgeous! The breakfast was the same with your full english, but cereals and fruit changed throughout the week. I didn't find the food repetitive in the way other travellers had explained. There is always a menu outside the door sayin what the main dish is. Throughout the week it altered from pork, turkey, beef, chicken, fish, meatballs etc. Sometimes, it was the same meat but different way of presenting it - different sauce, in batter, in breadcrumbs, on ribs etc. As well as the meat displayed on the menu, they also had a chef cutting up joints of ham, beef, turkey or pork like 3 or 4 times in the week - the ham was lovelyyy :) I could list all the items of food I loved, but I would be here forever. The veg was and wasnt repetitive. It changed from peas, carrots, cauliflower, sweetcorn, sprouts and then sometimes peas and carrots were mixed together, the cauliflower was cauliflower cheese etc etc. But it was still nice. I loved the pizza (which the toppings also changed every night) and the rice and the chicken crochets and everything!!!!. As well as that, the desserts wer yummy! The cakes were lovely and had a variety on each night, maybe one or two were on twice within the week, but who was to complain because it was the best cake!!! It was a spongy cake with strawberry jam on top and a nice cream in the middle - YUM!
The bar staff were lovely and ever so friendly. Always tried to help you out as best as they can. All have great english and will have a laugh with you. The all inclusive package includes local drinks only, WKD's etc are not included within the AI pack but they are only 2 euros at a time. Although I went through all the cocktails and various other drinks to find something I liked - eventually I did - strawberry vodka and lemonade. The bar terrace was a nice area to just chill.
The entertainment at night was quite poor. This is the only bad point I will agree with. There was childrens entertainment for like 90 minutes, then after it was quizzes for an hour then they just played music. One night there was an Elvis tribute that ended at 10pm. If you're looking to find a hotel where you can stay in at night and watch the entertainment - then this isn't for you. But despite having basically no entertainment, families still stayed at the hotel and were laughing and having a great time - its the company you keep that determines whether you're bored or not. The bar has last orders at 23:45 and by 00:30 the bar and down stairs is all lights off. Although, venture down (a 10 min walk if that) to the sea front and find masses of bars and restaurants. It's great. I recommend the bar Pirates and the nightclub Charly - open until 7am, although doesn't properly kick in until like 1pm - but perfect timing for when hotel bar closes ;)
Also one last thing about the hotel at night - the snacks. When you read in the brochure about snacks availabe etc, these are cakes between 16:00 and 17:00, and sandwiches at night time between 22:30 and 23:30. They aren't bad, quite nice tbh but you don't want them everyyyyy nightttttt so to solve this, nip over to the supermarket across the road and grab yourself some cheap nibbles :)
Hotel is close to various amenities like tabacco shops, supermarkets, perfume shops, clothes shops, bag shops, pharmacies, souvenier shops, jewellery shops etc etc, as well as bars, restaurants and a bus stop which can take you into the new town, the port and the old town (port is the best if you're after you're shops).
I know I am rambling on, but I do think the hotel is great. Location was perfect for me and my partner, best of both worlds - bars and clubs, but also quietness at hotel at night time, if we wanted it. Also, in the day down at the poolside, there are plenty of sun loungers so no need to fight for them and there is plenty of space. The grass is so green and its not muddy or patchy.
Basically, we loved this hotel and throughout the holiday we were talking about writing this review and the only bad things we could think of were the entertainment and snacks. Don't let anything put you off, this is a fantastic hotel and the area around it is great.
LOVE ITTTTT (L)
Ask for a pool view and maybe not too high up - 2 was just nice (check my photos)
