“Great location, Great food, loved every minute...pure relaxation”

Hotel Maricel

My husband and I have just returned for the Maricel. We had a fabulous break. The hotel is just lovely, the building is elegant and grand. The location is perfect, its nestled into a lovely little bay with crystal clear blue water and the infinity pool is again aesthetically pleasing. The hotel is very focused on relaxation, luxury and an aura of calm. No children, which for us was perfect. The pool area is a place to chill and relax. Its a hotel for grown ups.

The staff were extremely helpful, polite and friendly. They are looked super smart and well presented. Loved the idea of the daily chill out cocktail by the pool, whether its Green Tea or Basil - all delicious!

The food was impressive, completely over delivered on our expectations. The wine list was great, lots of choice, decent wines at decent prices. The lobster and red snapper millefeuille starter was heavenly! Breakfast was good, but the cold buffet was a little limited if I was to be picky. We opted for the cooked a la carte option and its was presented well and cooked to perfection.

The bar area was great, really atmospheric and chic. Excellent choice, I think I counted over 22 different types of vodka and 15 different types of gin. Cool lounge music playing, or a live jazz group, all worked well to enhance the ambience.

Rooms are lovely, clean lines, black and white. Well equipped Flat screen TV, DVD player, lovely toiletries. Great sea view. We had a corner room so had sea views right across the room. Rooms are not huge, but they work well and we were happy.

Spa is unique, with the treatment rooms actually built into the caves. I had a fabulous papaya scrub and aromatherapy massage, but it would be great if they had a wider range of treatments - facials etc. I was also concerned that I could be seen through the thin voile curtain looking out to the sea, and it is quite close to the wooden sun bathing platform that leads to the sea. I was assured this was not the case.

All is all a wonderful hotel, we loved every minute and will be booking to return early next summer. A real jewel in the med.

“Good with a few problems”

Hotel Maricel

Overall loved this hotel. Building was beautiful, location was close to where we wanted to be and the views were lovely.

Pool area was great, very peaceful, no children, staff were brilliant and the food was always delicious.

We stayed in a double room with terrace, slightly surprised the terrace was shared with another 3 rooms but this was not a problem, and we hardly saw anybody on the terrace the whole time we were there.

The room was very modern, a bit soul less as a place to stay on holiday but it had everything we needed.

Bathroom had some lovely toiletries but we did have problems with our toilet. The toilet just did not flush properly. We complained about it three times to reception before asking to see the manager and eventually they managed to fix it. Three days without a flushing toilet in a 5 star hotel is really not acceptable. We were offered a discount of 10% off our room rate but even 504 euros a night for three days without a flushing toilet is excessive. I am sure even a basic hotel would have a toilet you could flush without filling a bottle of water.

Apart from the toilet issue, we did not have any other problems and had a lovely stay. Would we stay again - I'm not sure.

This hotel doesn't only deserve to rated as one of the best in the Med, it should be rated one of the best in the world! My wife and I have just come back from 3 nights there and it felt like a two week break at least.
They have got everything SO right. The rooms (get a terrace, it's worth it). the beds, the breakfast, the pool.....I could go on and on.
Because there are only 20 or so rooms it often feels like you have the whole place as your private estate. I wish!!
Whoever trained the staff should be rewarded in Hotel heaven as they are attentive and caring without ever intruding.
There isn't a lot in the immediate area but for three days you would be mad to leave the hotel anyway.
As we left this afternoon I saw another couple arriving who saw the sea view from the terrace and melted into each others arms. They and everyone who goes here have got a real treat in store.

Great hotel, I've stayed here several times and its got a lot better. Was really badly run in the early days when you could not eat a sandwich on the comfy seats and were banished to the far corners to eat as a pariah. Fine, but as we were about the only people staying there at the time it was absurd. Since then the culprit has left and it has hugely relaxed, Staff great, beautiful setting, area not so great but 10 minutes into town and why leave?

It is obvious that it was built in a prime position many years ago ,not so far from the King of Spains summer residence , it retains the aura of exclusivity.

It is a large hotel but without too many rooms so it can slightly feel a bit empty sometimes, but this could be seen as a positive.
Lovely rooms, I stay on business but when I'm here my wife always manages to sneak over and take advantage, she only does this with this hotel ...!

“Great little mini break hotel in Mallorca!”

Hotel Maricel

7 Oct 2006

Recently back from a stay here with my girlfriend. We flew in from London for a 4 day / 3 night stay and throughly enjoyed ourselves. Ok so we splashed out and stayed Room 11 with the enormous private balcony but it was worth it! (Room 11 has a bedroom, lounge area and a private balcony that can be used for sun lounging and dining. Best of all, however, is the balcony faces West and gets the late afternoon sun when the pool area is shady!). The pool area is good with steps down to the Med. Interesting, not shown in the hotel photos is a local beach a short swim from the hotel - this makes for a nice afternoon swim. Hotel food is good but a little high end gormet (a bit much after 2 days). Bar area great and we had cocktails on the veranda every night. All in all a great place for a short break where you don't leave the hotel (the local area is not much to write home about). Regarding the price, it is a little toppy and for this kind of money the service and room finishes are slightly below par. If you want a longer stay head for the hills and spend you money there. If you want a quick get away with the wife or girlfriend jet over to Mallorca and let this hotel relax and pamper you for a few days.

PS My girlfriend and I both used the Spa and thought it excellent! I enjoyed it so much I booked the Indian head massage immediatly after my first treatment.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Room 11 - expensive but that balcony is great in the late afternoon sun.
