Having read some of the reviews on this hotel prior to travelling I was apprehensive about what to expect, so I went with an open mind and I have to admit I am able to relate to the poor reviews more so!
Food: on booking the hotel complex listed all the different types of restaurants available... Eg Buffet, mediterranean, italian, snack bars and AI drinks. There are these restaurants available on the complex but at cost which is not what is expected when booking AI, furthermore the food in the buffet restaurant was repetative and bland. There was always chips, breaded chicken and sauce if thats what you fancied. Breakfast was pretty much the same too, the same choices all the time. We ended up eating out due to the lack of variety. I read on another review that as they arrived later in the evening and missed the meal time they were provided with a pack up for them to eat; this wasn't the case for us or any of the other travellers we arrived with so be aware.
Rooms: these are dated and in much need of a facelift, there was a fridge in the room with a mini hob in the kitchenette even though we were AI. Let it be noted there is NO AIR CONDITIONING OR CEILING FAN!! Somehow our room stayed cool but a couple we met, their room was very warm and uncomfortable... I would hate to be in that situation in the heat of summer! The maid service isn't daily... the towels are changed everyother day and the bedding every third day.
Complex: it is made up of several hotels, some buildings a 10/15 minute walk to reception. The individual buildings seem to lack security, with doors on either sides open at all hours unless a guest closed them. There is only one entrance to the hotel, however anyone is able to walk onto the complex. About 7-7.30am there are staff cleaning the complex and cleanliness of the area is something that I cannot fault, although it was noted that the toilets in the AI morroco bar were in need of a clean and repair with writing all on the inside of the doors; yet on using the toilets in the snack bar (in which food/drink was purchased) were tiled, clean and to a much higher standard. There is mini golf, squah courts, tennis courts, a gym and karting on the complex, all have a fee except the gym (which we never found). The karting is €20 for just 7minutes.
Pools: there are numerous pools about the complex... however, as always not enough sunbeds and the typical predicament of guests getting up early to reserve beds... often all taken by 7.30am! There are plenty of grassy areas surrounding to relax on should you not get a sunbed. There are bars besides the pools serving drinks and icecream/crisps (only the drinks for AI- the snacks need to be purchased) if youre wanting food you need to either wait for lunch at the main buffet restaurant or walk to one of the other pools to the AI snack bar (I have no opinion on this as I never visited this bar).
Entertainment: much to be desired...also if you're in a building near to the lake/opposite the restaurant you will be able to hear the childrens/main entertainment from your room which goes on for quite some time!
Summary: Having travelled to this hotel it is not somewhere that I will be going to again, a week was plenty of time! I wouldn't advise going AI, maybe HB unless you wish to drink through the day. It isn't an awful hotel... its what you make of it!
Misc Info: The cost of a safe is €34 (inc €10 deposit) which is a key safe, so need to carry it with you. If you use an iron on holiday, try to take a travel one; an iron is €5 for the day or €22 (inc €10 deposit) for the week, however the iron was poor!
