We stayed between the 15th and 25th July in Alcudia. We had booked the Ciudad Blanca in particular because we had stayed in that area of Alcudia the previous year and really liked it and wanted to go back.
We arrived on Sunday morning having travelled early to be told that there was no room for us and that we had to stay for two days at another of the Iberostar hotels, the Playa De Muro hotel. We were not best pleased having had no indication that we would not be able to stay at the Ciudad Blanca at the time of booking or any time leading up to the actual holiday. With no choice, we sat outside and waited for a taxi to take us to the Playa De Muro hotel. It was a very nice hotel, probably with better facilities (gym and indoor pool) and the range of food was better than at the Ciudad Blanca. However, we were only there for two days so did not get to know any of the staff or feel settled. We had been told that we could have breakfast on the Tuesday morning and then get a taxi back to the Ciudad Blanca, however, when we arrived at the reception desk of the Playa De Muro we were told that check out time was 12pm but we couldn't get into our room until 1.30pm at the Ciudad Blanca. We found this a little annoying as we were planning on spending the day out, not sorting out moving from one hotel to another. The staff at the Playa De Muro, whilst polite, made it clear that the problem was for the Ciudad Blanca to resolve, not theirs. In the end, we took a taxi to the Ciudad Blanca that morning and left our suitcases in a locked room until we could get into our room at 1.15pm.
The reception staff were extremely good, sympathetic and apologetic. We learned that Iberostar take bookings as if all of their hotels in the area were one and because there were not enough rooms available for the period we wanted at the Ciudad Blanca, to ensure that we booked with them, seperated us between the hotels. I can understand this in one sense because had the room not been available when we initially booked, we may have looked at another hotel, so they were able to secure our booking. However, knowing that this is how Iberostar works, it will certainly make us think twice before booking with them again. Unless they make this central booking policy clear to people, I think it is very unfair and it didn't feel that our holiday started until we had got into our room at the Ciudad Blanca on Tuesday afternoon.
I will agree with all other reviews that the staff were wonderful and very polite, the rooms were cleaned daily and everywhere was kept extremely tidy and clean. The beach bar is a particularly nice place to have lunch. The restaurant staff deserve a medal for how they manage to keep enough food available for everyone at all times as it was very busy at breakfast and dinner every day. The animation staff try very hard and the entertainment each night was varied and professional.
Had we not have experienced the problems at the beginning of our stay as we did, I would certainly be keen to book again at the Ciudad Blanca.
