We've just returned from a weeks break at the Lobos Bahia (18th-25th April) and had a wonderful time. It was my first time in Correlajo and Fuerteventura but I'd been told by a lot of people that it was a nice little island, and it was.
Flights out and back were great, we were given complimentary meals by First Choice after they messed us around a lot. Originally we were
booked into the Hesperia Bristol Playa hotel, but when we got a letter saying that there was building work going on, we found out we were entitled to a free hotel change so chose this one, and we're glad we did.
The Lobos Bahia is perfectly placed for a nice stroll into town, the beaches and the water park. We were self catering, but there was an all inclusive option, but after going all inc. to Lanzarote last year, we decided we wanted a change so we chose self catering.
We were in room 2108 and it was fine. The bedroom is perfectly sized for two people and the beds are more than comfy and plenty of storage
space. There's also a handy little hole under the window to keep your
cases so they're not cluttering up your space. The bathroom is big enough and the shower is great. It's probably the best shower we've had in a hotel on any of our holidays. The kitchen and living area is
lovely too. We had a kettle, toaster, electric hobs for cooking and fridge obviously. All worked fine and we had no problems. We paid for
the TV to be on for the week and it cost us 21 euros for the week, which was well worth it considering that we had the TV on when we were getting ready or having our lunch in the afternoon. We also paid
to hire a fan from reception as well and believe me, you'll need it.
There's no air con in the rooms so to have a fan was a lifesaver. It cost us 20 euros I think and 10 of that was a deposit which we got back when we checked out and handed the fan in.
Pools were lovely. Our balcony overlooked the smaller pool at the back, but we used to go around the main pool out front. It was huge but very cold so I never went in. Ste did but I'm a wimp and don't like the cold. There were plenty of sunbeds but this could change if the hotel was at full capacity in the high season. There were signs on them all saying that reserving was forbidden so I don't know what they'd do if towels were put out. As I say there was no need for that
when we were there as there were more than enough for the guests.
Correlajo is a lovely little town with everything you'd need. There was a netto 5 minutes down the road, but if you carry on past the big
one and carry on until you get to the smaller one, go there because its cheaper. We got 3 bottles of red Smirnoff vodka for just under 10 euros each, but I think it was dearer in the bigger one. So, just a tip there.
Eating out wasn't a problem either. It was so cheap there that we ate
fantastically the entire week, took 100 euros out every night and always came back with money after going for drinks as well. Best place to go for breakfast was Ella's Bar. On the way into town, if you turn down at the side of the Correlajo beach hotel (currently being renovated) to the sea front, turn left and carry on walking until you get to a little restaurant, that's it. It's lovely, very good value and the staff are so nice. At the end of the week they knew what we had for breakfast since we went every day! For our evening meal we alternated between two restaurants on the harbour. The first was opposite the pizzeria on the corner near the music square. That was nice, but mainly seafood. However, the mixed grill and grilled chicken breast were superb. The other one was near this place. If you turn left at the pizzeria and walk to the restaurant on the seafront, you can't miss it. There's a lovely guy outside who tells you all about the specials. The food is fantastic, service is great and the views are amazing. We definitely recommend that place.
Nightlife out there was great. We went to Flicks every night, the karaoke bar and had a few drinks in there. It was 8 euros for a malibu and coke and a beer, which is a good price really. It was never busy when we first got in there at night, normally around 9ish, but later on it got very busy, so get there early to get a table inside if that's what you want. There are lots of tables outside though. There aren't a lot of reps trying to pull you into the bars either, which is a big relief considering the amount in places like Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote or Playa del Ingles on Gran Canaria. It was nice and chilled out and just right.
Location is perfect as well. If you're planning a day at the water park, it's literally a five minute walk from the hotel. Turn right onto the main road, walk up the hill and the water park is on the left. You can see the perimeter fences for the park when you leave the hotel. It was 20 euros for the day, but you had to pay for the lockers (3 euros with a 5 euro deposit) as well as 3 euros per sunbed
as well. Bit of a rip off on sunbeds if you ask me as there are no benches at all to sit on if you've no money to hire a sunbed and fancy a sit down from running around.
Overall we'd definitely go back to Correlajo and definitely go back to the Lobos Bahia. We're planning to go back either january or february next year. It was great. The only down was the weather, but obviously you can't control the weather. It was always hot, but a bit cloudy in the mornings but that always cleared up quite quickly.
The Lobos Bahia is definitely recommended and if you're going soon, you'll have a wonderful time.
