Stayed at the Riu from 21 - 29 March, party of 5 (4 adults and 1 child age 10). We were allocated two big rooms in the Annexe with bedroom upstairs. Check in was quick and reception team very helpful.

The food was excellent, plenty of choice with show cooking on some evenings to add some variety. The restaurant in the Annexe seemed to be quieter & the food definitely up to Riu standards.

The location is quite spectacular - on a massive white sand beach which stretches for miles. Corralejo, however is a bit of a dump but ideal if you want to get the Fred Olsen Express to Lanzarote which is great.

Sadly the Hotel itself suffers from two main issues :
1. Its too big > 800 rooms
2. Its looking old, tired and tatty.

I can imagine in peak season this hotel to be chaotic with the shear number of guests many of which are German so get your towels on a sunbed quick!

I do agree with previous reviews that this hotel is in need of some upgrading / a revamp and is not up to 4* or indeed Riu standards. Having stayed at the 4* Sandos Papagayo Arena in Lanzarote the previous week, this hotel falls way short of what we experienced there in this respect.

The rooms were kept clean (could use a lick of paint) but its more the outside areas that need some desperate attention and were disappointing. The Annexe is particularly bad - the walkway between the buildings to our room was like walking through a dirty, dingy subway - the same litter and rubbish that was blowing around when we arrived was still there when we left! The steps and tiles were in a state of disrepair, metal steps to other floors were rusty and didn't look too safe - unfortunately it would appear routine maintenance has not been kept up to and thus its the general appearance is what lets this hotel down.

Pools were good, snack bar food great, beer fine, & entertainment as you would expect. Animation team worked hard and offered plenty to do for everyone.

Had a good time, but wouldn't go back or recommend . Needs a thorough refurb.

We have just returned from a week at this hotel (Mar 2008)
I must say the hotel is very impressive.
I have never known cleanliness like it.
It is all inclusive and the food was cooked to perfection and such a choice changed daily.
There are 2 main restaurants which you just turn up too or you could book the 2 special restaurants in advance, one was asian and the other canarian.
Lunch was good too as you could eat snacks by the pool, pizza etc or visit the main restaurant for the full works.
I can not knock the hotel, the service the food the 2 pools or the location on the beach, however we must of chosen a bad week as it was like sitting in a wind tunnel all week and you literally had to hold on to your sunbed to avoid being blown away. I did not know this but fuerteventura translates as "strong wind" so i would not visit this island again which is a shame .
The only bad points to this hotel are below.
1. The hotel is mainly German, and the entertainment was poor and aimed at the european taste. very euro very camp.
2. The hotel is situated some 8km from corralejo and any civilisation, so there is not a lot to do outside the hotel so it is good that you are all inclusive. a taxi into the centre costs around 6 euro or a bus is 1.2 euro each.
3. as mentioned the wind, be prepared for a windy holiday, it was a weird feeling as the sky was blue and the sun was out but you would sit there shivering, maybe a bad week but everyone i have spoken to about this island have said that their holdiday was windy too.
4. Because of the wind we were not allowed to go into the sea all week because of the big waves. Outside the hotel the beach is monitored and the red flags were flying all week which means no entry to the water. If you entered the lifeguards would come past whistling and tell you to get out. This was a downer as we only go on holiday to swim in the sea.

We visited Oliva beach hotel from 15th-22nd march and had a fantastic holiday. Location on the 'white sand desert' was amazing, facilities brilliant and cleanliness faultless. We took our young toddler and there was plenty of choice in the all inclusive food to feed him. The staff even provided warm milk for his evening bottle! We also took him to the madarin restaurant and canarian restaurant both of which had delicious food and were child friendly.
The childrens pool was lovely and warm and the beach was perfect for children. Everyone was so helpful and friendly.
We had rooms in the main hotel which were great, with beach views and spotlessly clean.
The weather was around 30 degrees all week which added to our great stay.
The hotel is predominantly Germans, who despite hotel requests not to, they do put their towels out on the sunbeds early!! The evening entertainment is also aimed at German humour, however if you have an open mind this does not have a negative effect on your holiday!
I wouuld highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing, child friendly holiday in the sun!

We booked this hotel 2 weeks before leaving due to an balls up on the part of Thomas Cook & Royalties Gold (never gonna deal with them again"!)
It was for a group of 8 people, 2 of which were aged 1 and 4!
We booked 3 suites in the annex area of the hotel, which was great as we were on the ground floor with access out the back to nip in and see one another when we wanted somthing. We were Overlooking the sand dunes and the mountains in the distance (old volcano!)
Flew from Newcastle, staying overnight in the Novotel hotel (first class..... £85 a room includes 2 weeks parking the car and a full cooked buffet breakfast to chose from!)
About 4 and a half hours flight time, which was enough with 2 wee ones!
Long walk to the bus though dragging the cases! be warned!
After about a 40 minute bus trip and we were the first drop off.
Hotel staff at reception very welcoming... asked for our names and passports and checked us in while we went along to the resturant for a bite of lunch and a nosey at the pool.
Burgers, pizza, salad, pasta, all on tap! great! not to mention freshly made wine! HIC and Beer! (all self service!)
After that we got tagged and headed accross to our annex block...
Very clean, and welcoming. lots of space. AC and fan in living area. Lacked a little painting and tlc but fine for us! only news channels in English (bbc world and sky news), but you are here for a holiday, not to watch tv! Some people seem to be far too picky!
Checked out the 2 pool areas.... Main pool at hotel is nice, with jacuzzi etc but is very windy, one at the annex end is very sheltered and I would say more child friendly, with a snack bar open from 10ish and plenty of sunbeds.... although if you want a certain spot you have to get those towels out early! (GERMANS ON MASS)
The kids club is very German and French orientated... although all the staff do speak english, we felt a little left out!
Animation crew.... Wonderful bunch... Best of all was Dominque :-P ! she is mad!
New managaer bought in on the second week.... he wasnt as good as nic... and was moving his own team in. 2nd week ths shows started to repeat a little.....but not as good as the first time around...
Parrot show, reptile show etc are just trying to get you to part with money for a photo with animals.... 10 euros a pop! so be warned!
Resturants... great choice from pizza and chips, to salmon and steak.... varied everynight.. we enjoyed the carvery.... some great pork and beef to be had... watch out for chef nights cooking in the middle of the hall... crepes with apple filling in a triple sec sauce with icecream.... YUM to die for! We used the main resturant in the hotel rather than the one in the annex, it had more room and a slightly better range we feel.
the canarian and mandarin were both good too... prefered the mandarin most of all... good to try somthing different... and if you dont like it hey.. Its all inclusive... go get somthing else!
Never made it to the nightclub.... but heard good reports.
playpark for the kids is great... slide, climb frame etc... safe bit of sand to play in...
The big sandpit (aka the beach) is enormous......
Although at times a little windy and very hard walking in for any length of time....Ferlt like your legs were getting shotblasted! We visited on a few occasions when the wind had died down... your sure to get a tan here! Great for Kite flying too!
Just along from the hotel its a case of anything goes in the clothing dept so dont be surprised to see dangly bits...
Not a lot to do in the area compared to other places we have been to, if you just want the pool and beach a great place.
We did take a glass bottom boat to los lobas which was a good chance to see the fish! .
Shops on hotel site... one at the annex was cheaper.... just outside the complex is a supermarket which is even better value with a wide range of all you could need!
what else can i say? great resort, great people, good weather, and plenty of choice to eat and drink... what more could you want?

We stayed at Olivia Beach Resort from the 27th Feb - 5th March 08 in an apartment overlooking the pool in the annex.

We have been very happy at the quality of the food, the cleanliness and the friendly reception staff. Nothing was too much trouble. What made our holiday special was the wonderful mini club. The children (3yrs and 5yrs) couldnt wait to go every day 10-12.30 and 3-6. The animation team were brilliant. The mini disco was 7.30 - 8pm in the annex snack bar followed by the evening entertainment in the main hotel.

The heated pool at the annex was lovely and secluded and was mainly for families. I had very minimal wind and was a sun trap. The pool at the front of the main hotel was mainly couples and although had the view of the amazing beach it was quite windy at times. (take a beach shelter ours was really handy)
We had to go into coralejo to change more money none of the hotels offer this service taxi was 5 euros each way. I wasnt impressed with the town and didnt really need to explore beyond the hotel complex if it wasnt for the cash - you had everything you could want there.

I will be returning to this resort as it was an all round great experience. The building is in need of external decoration / upgrade but the service and quality was second to none.
