We just got back from Las Marismas and I can't think of anything negative to say about it.
There were three swimming pools, one fantastic kids pool which was huge and shallow and very safe. It was great as it meant we could relax a bit more and not have to follow our one year old around constantly, and there were loads of other kids to play with as well. Next to the pool was the kids club, which accepts kids from three, but also had a playground which any age could use. The club was great and my four year old loved it. It was well managed and very safe. There was no extra charge for the club either. Every night they had a kids disco which everyone loved. It was brilliantly child friendly. Don't be put off if you don't have kids though, there is plenty for everyone.
Yes the pools were cold, but not so much that you couldn't swim, it just took some getting used to. The bottom pool was never as cold as the top one if this helps!
There was an impressive array of leisure facilities as well, which I wasn't expecting, and it was all part of the price. They had crazy golf, tennis (you could even take lesson from a pro), squash, volleyball, boules, five-aside, I think basketball, and even a gym!
The rooms were lovely. Very spacious with a lovely big bath and a full range of self catering needs including a microwave, hob, fridge, kettle and utensils. Yes, we had two cockroaches, but what do you expect? We were on the ground floor surrounded by a lovely tropical garden. There wasn't airconditioning in our apartment, but to be honest, you don't really need it as the island never really gets too hot thanks to the wind! I don't think I saw a single mosquito inside or out.
We went all-inclusive which was fine. Okay, the food wasn't brilliant, but it was okay. They did a great job catering for so many people. They tried to offer a wide enough selection to keep everyone happy and for a vegetarian, a meat and carbohydrate lover and two fussy kids, we were kept happy. Every night there was at least two types of meat on offer, that was cooked in front of you, plenty pasta and fish, and always chips. The puddings were the typical Spanish covered in cream ensemble, but they always had ice cream. Breakfast was good, freshly cooked eggs always available, plus fruit, breads, cheeses and meats. Lunch was also fine.
There was a shop on site, which was well stocked and had most things you needed. The staff were lovely, everything was clean and well maintained. It was also very safe if travelling with kids as there was only one entrance into and out of the hotel.
The location was great, it wasn't far from the main town and just across the road from the islands only water park which was good for a day out. The entrance fee includes the zoo which has some animals. If you get there just before it opens, you may get a chance to swim with the sealions as a woman usually comes up to ask if anyone wants to do it.
I loved the island and I loved the hotel. I was very apprehensive as it was so cheap, but it was fantastic. I would highly recommend this to everyone. It's a real gem!
