“Nice, clean hotel in a perfect location.”

Holiday Inn London-Chessington

3 Apr 2008

Stayed here for two nights the weekend after Easter with two children aged 15 and 5. Perfect location for Chessington World of Adventures, literally walk through the car park and your at the gates. Nice clean hotel, we had a family room which had a separate area with two childrens beds and a flat screen tv, a nice touch giving both them and us some privacy. Room was a good size, I used the pillow menu as the standard ones you get are quite firm, lovely bathroom with both bath and shower, tea and coffee making facilities in room. Overall a very nice hotel for the price (I paid £85 a night). The first night we ate at the Monkey Puzzle, a Beefeater restaurant only 200yds up the road, food was very reasonable (just over £50 for 3 courses for 4 people). Breakfast was at a cost of £15.95 per adult of which my 15 year old daughter is classed and £7.95 per child, therefore it would have cost us £56 in total!!!! We ate a cooked breakfast and as much as you wanted from the continental table at the Beefeater for £27, a much better option if you ask me.
The second night decided to eat at the hotel, they have an A La Carte menu which is not cheap but no more than you would pay in most a la carte restaurants, or you can choose the buffet option at £15.95 per adult and £7.95 for children, we went for this option and was pleased, a fair amount of choice and quite tasty for a buffet.
Didn't use the leisure facilities so can't comment on those, however the pool looked quite nice.
Overall would definitely stay here again, can't get any closer to Chessington, we found a day and a half was plenty for this park however there were no queues which helped. We also spent a day and a half at Thorpe Park which is 18 miles away.

“Good Hotel”

Holiday Inn London-Chessington

31 Mar 2008

We stayed here as part of a birthday celebration. We spent the day in Chessington Zoo & World of Adventures, before a family get-together in the hotel. We had a standard double, other members of our party had an exec room.

The Hotel has an african theme, and is very well presented. Definite style touches of a Game Lodge. The theme is carried through to the rooms.

Great Shower. No bath. Apparently the exec rooms' taps don't always manage to get the water into the sink.

We needed a cot for Travelrug Minor, which was requested on booking, confirmed the week before arrival, and yet needed a call to reception followed by a visit to reception before it was sent to the room.

Nice bed with HI's customary pillow menu. No phone by the bed.

Food - overpriced, with a buffet option. I haven't tasted minced beef like they did it since I left school. The Beefeater would have been a better option.

So - stay here? Yes.
Eat here? No.

“Terrible hotel in a lovely place”

Holiday Inn London-Chessington

30 Mar 2008

Stayed for a saturday night, booked with chessington for their stay and play b&b offer of £189. when we checked in at the hotel after being in the park for the day, i noticed they were tryingt o overcharge for the room rate.
the room itself was small but quite nice, although 1 pillow per person is not normal in a 4star hotel, and not minibar/ frideg for me to keep baby milk, and no cot as requested, no safe no video equipment. the kids area in the family room is a lovely idea and did provide a quiet area for adults in the evening.
dinner in restaurant was excellent and staff are very nice, however we booked a table for 8pm, but the restaurant did not get any booking from the reception so our booking was lost and we had to wait 30mins which is not easy with small and hungry children.
in the morning they only delivered one measly breakfast to the room which was not even very good. we then told reception they didnt bring up the other breakfasts which of course they said they would send straight away, 2 hours later we checked out without any appearance of breakfast.
the bar and restaurant staff are very nice, the building is lovely and location great, but this hotel does not provide rest after a long day in the park.

“bright and bustling but busy breakfast”

Stayed here in a family room over Easter. Room was great with separate area for our two boys with flat screen TV - they loved that. Nicely decorated good sized room with new furnishings.
Had to change pillows as ones supplied were like bricks.
Smallish pool which was very busy as we were there at a peak time. Staff very helpful and friendly - although sometimes a struggle for East European staff to understand you.
Breakfast a bit chaotic due to busy-ness on Easter Sunday. Had to wait to be seated and then not all breakfast items were available - I didn't get my sausages and scrambled egg!
Perhaps I'm sounding fussy, but having stayed in a few Holiday Inns we were used to everything being perfect. (can recommend the one at Shepperton).
Any gripes are probably due to them being packed out over Easter, and having Dennis the Menace there for the kids on Sunday morning!
On the whole, good place to stay - a stone's throw from Chessington Theme Park

“Lovely break”

We stayed here for just one night for a pre Valentines break. The hotel is spacious very modern and clean. Agree that the restaurant prices are very high - there is a Beefeater a few minutes up the Road (The Monkey Puzzle) for more variety and less impact on the pocket! We booked directly with the hotel and being that I am a member of their priority club the room with breakfast cost £59 for the night!! The breakfast was amazing a BIG variety including strawberrys!! and every other thing you could think of! I have stayed in a lot of hotels and this was the best so far!
The room was quite large, overlooking some of the zoo - found that the windows were very small though! and the furnishings were of a safari theme .
There were no welcome touches though (no mini shower gels, shower hats etc) although there were gels and liquid soap from a dispenser.
There is no gym but an unusually large pool and jacuzzi which was spotlessly clean (at one point we had to share it with 21 rugby players from a visiting top Rugby club!!! :-) which was a highlight!!!!!
As we were out of season it was very quiet - I could imagine that in the Summer it would be over run with families.
Would definatly visit again.
