“Lovely building - appalling service”

Corus Hotel Elstree

26 Dec 2007

Stayed for 3 nights - a standard room for myself and a suite for my parents. Building itself is very nice with lots of old world charm. HOWEVER, service is another issue entirely. One/two flights of stairs to rooms and no one available to take cases up. Checked in at 3.00pm and rooms were freezing cold. Needed maintenance to come and sort out the radiators. Room service is non existant. Put the usual room service breakfast request outside the door and got up next morning to no breakfast! Phoned reception and was told they would speak to the ktchen and call me straight back. Called reception after an hour to be told "sorry" now too late for breakfast but can we offer you a sandwich!. Asked just for coffer and orange juice only to have to wait 45 mins for this. When I told reception I thought the service was bad the young lady readily agreed and said it was often like this!!!! That night I put breakfast request outside the door again. I phoned reception before going to bed to tell them of this fact and asked not to forget my breakfast next day. Guess what? No breakfast again!!! After several phone calls coffee and orange juice did appear with cereal, toast and jam. Only problem - no cutlery. Wolud not return and great pity because building itself is as mentioned lovely. Some staff training would go an awful long way.

“Lovely hotel”

Corus Hotel Elstree

19 Oct 2007

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night for our wedding anniversay. We also held our wedding reception here in 2004. Both times we have stayed in one of the suites so I cannot comment of the normal rooms but have been told by others that they are good. If you have the money to stay in a suite (£200 inc breakfast) it is definately worth it. The hotel has 5 suites and they are all located in the main part of the building which is also the older part. This really is a quant British hotel with lots of history.

The main part of the hotel is very old and has some beautiful features. It is also very set in quiet, tranquill surroundings. The breakfast is excellent with many choices, the full english is huge.

This hotel is best reached by car although it is only a short taxi ride from the nearest station. This hotel is more suited from a relaxing time away rather than as a base to go into London as it is about 25 mins by train away.

I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone looking to escape for a while.

“Nice out of town stay”

Corus Hotel Elstree

16 Feb 2007

One night stay on 14th Feb.. emailed int he first place and they gave me a price of £66 for a double ensuite including breakfast. I asked them to book. A week went by and 2 days before our date decided to check and found out they have not booked me in. In turned out they contract out their reservation and the reservation company had done nothing about my booking. They called the hotel and called me back saying the price is now £95 because they are busy that night. I decided to go to their website and saw twins for £60. So I booked it on ther website and asked them to put beds together. We checked in on the day and to our surprise found they had given us a double room anyway. The room was fantastic and brand new from the carpet and kettle to shower valve and the toilet. All first class stuff and really nicer than a 5 star hotel. For £60 a real bargain no question about it and friendly staff too.

Great value for a 3-star hotel, especially if you are a single traveller, book via the internet and choose the b and b plan @ £39 pp pn. Reserve it while you can! Great breakfast and very helpful staff.

“Nice but away from the city centre”

I have stayed there for one night and the only drawback I could find is its distance from the Edgware station (Northern Line). The room was pretty nice with all the amenities that you can easily find at a 4star hotel! The room cost me only £46 and the service was satisfactory.
