I was very impressed with the location of this property, first impressions were very good until I got to reception and was met by a miserable receptionist who greeted me with an unconvincing hello. She then proceeded to make me wait in awkward silence whilst she continued to finish her work, she could have said "I will be with you in a minute" or "sorry just bear with me" but instead she chose to blank me until she had finished what she was doing which made me feel very uncomfortable! I was then shown to my room which was in the separate building to the side of the hotel, the room was large and very clean and would give any Holiday Inn a run for their money, however I had a very poor night’s sleep due to the fact that I could hear every door slamming as residents came and went, there were no soft shut doors and each and every one created a racket when closed. Also the twin beds I had requested to be made into a double were very uncomfortable due to the extremely hard join in the middle; I wished I had just slept in the single bed!
I ate in the restaurant and I have to say this was the highlight of my trip, the staff were fantastic, they were friendly and on the ball and their service was second to none. The food was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced; I had the chicken liver pate and mushroom risotto and thought it was fantastic!
In the morning as I had had such a bad night’s sleep I decided to leave at 7am without having breakfast (I had agreed to add this to my room when I checked in the night before at 6pm, the cost was £9.50 for either a continental or full English breakfast) at check-out I explained to the receptionist I would not be stopping for breakfast so I would like it to be removed from my bill, the receptionist point blank told me (rather aggressively) that this would not be possible and that this was in the T&C's, I knew it wasn't so I asked her to show me where it was written and she told me she couldn't show me but I should have been told, I told her that this hadn't been explained to me and she told me the chef had already made my breakfast so I had to pay, end of!! She was extremely rude and had no people skills whatsoever!!
Would I stay here again - NO, would I have dinner here again - YES!!!!
