Visited the Maybury last night to celebrate my Son's birthday, party of four. We have used this restuarant a number of times as it is very local to us and have usually had a reasonably good experience. The food is expensive for what it is, but usually ok and the atmostphere generally quite lively.
However! Last night was truely awful. My wife and I ordered filler steaks, only to be told after waiting 20 minutes that they had run out. So suggested to the waitress that she ask the chef to prepare whatever good steak they have. Another 25 minutes later my wife and I were served what I can only describe as a 'wet piece of shoe leather'. I like mine rare, my wife takes a medium rare. We were both served 'blue', full of gristle slabs of disgusting fare. Accompanied by cold chips and a limp salad. My son ordered a 'luxury' burger with trimmings...again awful.
My wife had taken along a birthday cake for my son (34) with candles....when we asked for it they took twnety minutes to prepare, came out to the restaurant with it as we sung happy birthday to our son. The waitress walked straight past us and took the cake to another table! Then ensued a debate as to who ythe cake was for before it was eventually bought us...with the excuse from the waitress that she had only been there a week.
Bill for £155 followed for what was a terribe experience.
This restaurant has definately gone way down hill and the service management shows no inclination to enhance customer experience. We were offered no apology just a weak smile as we left.
It will be a long time before we go back!!!
