I specifically chose this motel during this trip to Virginia because of the good reviews it received here. I have to admit I was very disappointed. When I arrived at the registration desk (which is separate from the motel, and some distance away), the clerk took some time before acknowledging me, even though there was no one else in line. Because it was a Friday, there was an additional $10 charge for the room.
The room was average size, with two double beds, and two chairs, one of which was right next to the door. The door kept getting stuck on the carpet, and did not swing closed, it had to be forced shut. There was a long dresser, on which sat the rather ancient TV. There was a micro wave, fridge, and nightstand, as well as an iron & ironing board. The bathroom was miniscule; there was about 1 inch of clearance between the open door and the tub. There was also peeling wallpaper on several parts of the room.
The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable, and probably very inexpensive. You could feel the springs poking into you when you lay down on the beds (I tried both). No padding, no foam, just a thin layer of mattress fabric over top of the springs. The nightstand sported rings of a sticky brown substance, almost as if someone had set cups of hot chocolate on it, and it had never been cleaned.
On the headboards I noticed a strange, fuzzy kind of dust. When I ran my fingertip over the headboard it came back coated with this substance. All of the room furnishings, including the TV, the microwave, the chairs, etc., were coated with this fuzzy white substance. I have no idea what it was, or if it was coming off of the ceiling tiles.
There were also two distinct areas of what appeared to be mold on the wall near the dresser. Small black specks in patches. There was no dark colored paint in the room, so they couldn't be attributed to spattered paint. I did not go to the breakfast buffet, nor did I try the WiFi.
This was an extremely disappointing experience. From the reviews on here, I was looking forward to a pleasant stay, especially since the motel had one Chairman's awards. The less expensive Red Roof Inn in Staunton is much cleaner, and has much more comfortable mattresses, as well as more customer service oriented staff.
