We recently spent two days and nights at the inn, having found it listed in the AAA book as being off the Blue Ridge Parkway and also reviewed in TripAdvisor.com. We wanted a country inn (as opposed to a B&B) with a restaurant, peace and quiet, and located near Virginia activities such as wineries, antique stores, Charlottesville, etc. This inn fit the bill perfectly. We would rate the Saturday night dinner as "average" (not Michelin 1-3 stars but certainly a 1-spoon) and the service was very friendly without being overbearing. The breakfasts are excellent, although we would have liked more fruits such as a fruit bowl with apples and bananas, since we like raw fruits in the mornings. (However, it is easy enough to bring your own.) We did not take advantage of the lunch/picnic offerings so cannot comment on that. All the same, we appreciated the "open bar" of cookies, pretzels and sodas in the common area and the coffee maker in the room.
Our room (Tye River) was very spacious, comfortable, QUIET (we could hear nothing outside of our voices!) and enjoyable. Who cares that the TV gets no reception!! If you come here for TV, internet, wireless, and other technical experiences, you have definitely picked the wrong place. The bed was comfortable and the bath towels are the best we've had in many, many trips. Having a fireplace in the room was both cozy and romantic. We are sure that if we had needed any other amenities (such as another pillow or blanket), these would have been provided.
A couple of practical points. The inn is very conveniently located off the Blue Ridge Parkway, but the access road is VERY steep (reminded us of the Cinque Terre in Italy), so be prepared. We did not try the access in the dark. In fact, we chose to have a picnic (and brought our own wine) for Sunday night (when dinner is not offered) rather than dine away from the inn and return late in the evening in the dark. Currently, dinner is offered only on Friday and Saturday evenings and you are asked to make your main dish choices in advance. (This is understandable, since the owner/chef obviously does not want to purchase too much nor have too little for his guests.) But this means making other plans if you stay on other days. The bathroom amenities are not the equivalent of a 4-5 star hotel (magnifiying mirror, shoe shine, cotton swabs, etc.) so if you need items beyond soap, shampoo, lotion, and mouthwash, bring your own. Again, we are sure that if you ask the innkeepers for an item you have missed, they will be glad to provide anything to the best of their abilities.
We really enjoyed this find! Were it not for the fact that the innkeepers deserve a good review (and we want them to stay in business), we'd really keep this secret to ourselves!! Given the azaleas, rhododendron, dogwood and other plants, this location must be awesome in the spring! We will definitely go again.

Thanks for the kind words!
I would like to add that we do now offer a light fare meal most weekdays so you do not have to leave the property for dinner. Advance notice is appreciated.
Also, while our driveway is narrow and winding, it is safe (no one has ever had an accident on it) so please don't let that deter you from coming to see us!
