“Beautiful, unforgettable place to stay”

The Inn at Vaucluse Spring

2 Jul 2008

The Inn at Vaucluse Spring is a most romantic and idyllic location. The beauty of the countryside and the peacefulness of the setting make it a superb vacation spot for couples. Though there is plenty to do in the nearby local area, I barely wanted to depart even for the afternoon! There are so many different properties at the Inn--each with its own beautiful setting and personality. My husband and I stayed in a suite in the Chumley Homeplace which was very cozy and romantic. and comfortable. The Manor House was also gorgeous (and has some interesting Civil War history) and every aspect of the three course breakfast was scrumptious. The employees and innkeepers were also wonderful. One of the top B&B's we've ever visited!

We have stayed in many places around the world, but this place has such charm, we keep coming back. The swimming pool is surrounded by beautiful flowers and historic buildings. There are acres and acres for walking. We like the fact that there are so many different types of rooms to choose from. You can have a two story mill house all to yourself, or an exquisite suite in an old farmhouse with access to two large and beautifully decorated living rooms and a screened in porch. Other choices include a log cabin or a room in the manor. The breakfasts are a work of art, as well as being delicious and healthy! We also like the old-fashioned drive-in theater just two miles down the road.

My husband and I needed an overnight stay in the Shenandoah Valley area. We were visiting a college in Front Royal and found a link on the college website. We've stayed at quite a few B&B's, but this one really stood out. It was exactly the way it was described on their website. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. We are already planning a return trip with our kids in August.
My oldest son has dietary restrictions which makes travelling difficult, but the owner, Barry, reassured us that they can easily accomodate his special diet. My husband and I were very impressed with their hospitality and warmth. We look forward to our return.

“Vaucluse Spring is special!”

The Inn at Vaucluse Spring

18 Jun 2008

We have stayed at the Inn at Vaucluse Spring several times now in a couple of different seasons and in a couple of different rooms and it is a different and wonder place to be each time.

During the winter, the Chumley Homestead (which is a traditional log home with two large bedrooms upstairs) was cozy and welcoming, with its antique furnishings, a Christmas tree, holiday decorations and a roaring fire in the oversized stone fireplace in one of the common rooms. We were snug and warm and perfectly at home even though there was an ice storm during one of the nights we were there. As the other room in the Homestead was not occuped when we were there, it was like having the whole house to ourselves. Coffee was available first thing in the morning in the huge downstairs kitchen which can be used by guests. Breakfast was served later in the morning in the dining room at the Manor House. Breakfast was delicious, plentiful and kept us going for the whole day; it consisted of a pastry or muffin, fruit and a hot main course together with beverages of your choice. Everything is homemade, attractively presently and very tasty.

During the summer, the Mill House Studio, a private free-standing building, is bright and sunny with fabulous views over the mill pond from the main floor living room and the upstairs bedroom. The two rooms (one up and one down) are spacious with comfortable antique furnishings. There is a small utility kitchen with a bar frig. The bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub and separate stall shower. An unexpected bonus was the sound of the water flowing gently over the small dam for the mill pond which is directly adjacent to the Mill House Studio, we found it relaxing and comforting. There is a small patio in the front which is directly on the mill pond; the Adirondack chairs on the patio are a perfect place for reading on a summer afternoon or for a glass of wine at the end ot the day or for star-gazing on a warm summer night. A short walk brings you to the in-ground swimming pool which was a blessing on a near record-setting hot day when we were there. The air conditioning in the Mill House Studio also made it very comfortable for sleeping, despite the heat. My husband and I both marveled that the view from the pool area reminded us of the English countryside in the full of summer, with rolling hills, green meadows, woodlands and cattle grazing; it could have been a Constable painting! It would be an equally lovely view in the autumn when the fall foliage is at its peak. We look forward to returning to the Inn to experience that season as well,

The one constant at the Inn is the innkeepers, Neil and Barry who have mastered the art of hospitality. Their welcome is warm and genuine and you will really feel that they car e about the quality of your stay at their inn. We recommend that you try to have dinner at the Inn on Friday or Saturday night or both,. The food and wine is excellent, the service is of high quality and it is nice to be able to take a leisurely stroll back to your room at the end of the meal. However, as a previous writer has indicated, there is single pre-set dinner menu so if this could be a problem for you, you should discuss this with one of the innkeepers in advance. I am sure that they will be able to accomodate you. Should you be staying mid-week, there are a number of great restaurants in the neighborhood and the innkeepers will be happy to assist you.

We highly recommend the Inn at Vaucluse Spring and are sure that you will find it as wonderful as we do. There are an incredible number of things to do in the area as the inn is in the heart of the upper Shenandoah Valley. However, one thing that we really enjoy is attending performances at the Wayside Theatre in Middleton (a few miles from the inn). The actors are professionals, the quality of the productions is high and the theatre is now newly renovated and better than ever.

“Great country getaway!!”

The Inn at Vaucluse Spring

10 Jun 2008

We have just spent two nights at The Inn at Vaucluse Spring and had a lovely time. The Inn is a huge property of over 100 acres and includes a magnificent 1800's Manor House which houses the restaurant and six rooms rented as B&B, plus three lounges and a lovely big porch full of rockers overlooking a spacious lawn.
There are, I believe, five other buildings on the property, each with it's own distinctive personality, that have varying numbers of rooms for rent of various sizes. There is also an outdoor pool, which felt great on a 95-degree day such as we had! All around, no matter which building you would stay in, you are treated to lovely views of either hills, pasture land, mountains and some beautiful gardens.
We stayed in the Manor House and our room had a queen size bed, two comfortable easy chairs, gas fireplace and a jacuzzi tub with shower in the bathroom. Rooms are furnished in antique and some contemporary furnishings, all tastefully combined. We had a chance to visit all of the other rooms in the Manor after all of our fellow guests checked out on Sunday and we were staying until Monday. All the rooms have different furnishings in them, but all with the same basic types of pieces, some with additional pieces, based on the size of the room.
Do not miss dinner served on Saturday evenings. Such a lovely atmosphere, fantastic service, and excellent food. There is only one main dish offered though, so if that might be a concern for you, check with your hosts about what they are serving before you make your reservations. Dinner includes appetizer, salad, main course with side dish and desert. Wonderful!
Our hosts, Neil and Barry, have had the Inn for over 15 years and have truly found their calling! They have very congenial personalities and obviously enjoy meeting people and providing top-level service. They will work with you to provide you with information on things to do in the area and how to get to them! They even have a collection of menus from eating establishments in the area, to help you to make choices for lunches or dinners.
Neil is also the chef and she provides excellent breakfasts as well as dinner. While Neil is busy in the kitchen, Barry makes it his business to make the rounds of his guests to be sure they are happy with everything involved with their stay at the Inn; both, really nice people.
We decided that we would be back to enjoy more time at The Inn at Vaucluse Spring before we had even left! I'm guessing winter would be very relaxing and cozy with our own fireplace. Maybe even snow! Fall will be spectacular, with the color change in the trees and mountains. May not know when, but we will be back!
