I stayed at the new Sierra Hotel from Nov 6-8, 2007. I come to DC frequently and have been staying at the Country Inn and Suites. When I saw that the Sierra was open, I decided to give it a try. It's a wonderful, modern hotel for the price. Since it recently opened, they were still working out some quirks (my key stopped working, the phone didn't work), but I'm sure they will be resolved. The decor is very sleek and reminicent of a much more expensive hotel. The free breakfast was also excellent. While the layout of the rooms have some small problems, I was very please overall.
The pros:
-brand new, sleek decor
-excellent free breakfast
-studio suites for a reasonable price (kitchen amenieties)
-well equiped workout room with chilled towels
-Starbucks coffee in the room
-good location for Dulles and northern virginia
-friendly, accomodating staff
-great outdoor pool area (which I didn't get to use because it was closed for the season but peeked at)
The cons:
-slightly weird layout of the bathroom in the studio suite. The sink area has no place to hang towel or washcloth
-can't use sink wtih closet doors open
-TV can't be watched from both beds at same time
-No workdesk for laptop (only kitchen table where chair is too low to be comfortably used)
Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel
