“Eh... Its ok but nothing special”

22 Feb 2008

Stayed here in Feb for business because it was a new hotel and thought i would try it out.

Outside of the building is impressive, walking into the lobby, immedately thought "Eh... this is very dull" All the walls were grey, not a very warm and welcoming color. The front desk staff was nice and professional.

Walked into the room, very contempory and spacious. Still smelled like paint and dry wall to me. Had a nice small kitchen with stove top and full size fridge (which had a half full bottle of water in it) but even throom seemed like it was going more for athetics then function. The desk was tall and had a very uncomfortable chair to work at. I couldnt get comfy because there was a support bar for the desk running horizontaly across getting in the way of my legs so i had to sit on an angle, made it ver uncomfortable. Bed was comfy, shower was cool, (no shower curtain! just a glas partition) but again nothing super special just cool to look at.

The alarm clock didnt work, i had to call the front desk twice and 2.5 hours later i got a replacement.

Hotel lacks a pool and hot tub. The contentental breakfast wasnt anything special either. Ive had better at a Comfort Inn.

Over all the hotel was ok, but i didnt leave with the feeling i would return. I would preferr to stay at Spring Hill or the Residense Inn if you want a suite type room by Dulles airport.

“Will Be My First Choice for Dulles Area!”

Hotel Sierra Washington Dulles

16 Feb 2008

I was booked in the Hotel Sierra for business, and have requested it ever since. This new property is very clean and very chic. The decor throughout the hotel could be classified as "Manhattan Chic", but with organic touches such as stone around the columns in the public area. The fake fireplace leaves a lot to be desired, but the rest of the decor makes up for it. The rooms are comfortably sized, and the beds are comfortable, though not the plushest I have ever slept in. Wonderful complimentary toiletries, and the shower is modern and sleek, though water tends to splash out beyond the half-glass wall and cool air comes in. The 24-hour business center is well equipped, as is the exercise facility and the staff is eager to please. For me, the best part is the complimentary breakfast. This is not your Holiday Inn continental breakfast by a long shot! Made to order omelets, fresh pastries, fresh fruit which includes typical cantelope and honeydew, but goes beyond with fresh sliced pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, Starbucks coffee, thick slices of bread, some brunch-type fare (cold cuts, olives, feta cheese) and everything presented beautifully. The breakfast attendants are extremely pleasant, and will gladly accomodate your special omelet requests. I brought items from the buffet table to include instead of things they offered at the omelet station, and the attendant (whose name begins with an M and was very, very nice) was quite pleased to accomodate. Although I probably wouldn't recommend this hotel as a weekend out with small children, I did see several families there and they did have young children. All in all, this hotel is a great value, and they are on to something really great. Loved it!

I've stayed in 4 other hotels near Dulles airport and this one by far is the best. It's brand new which always helps, but if they keep up the good work they will soon be a Dulles favorite. The rooms are very clean and spacious. Hotel staff was very friendly both check in and out. The breakfast in the morning is one of the VERY best I've ever had at a hotel. The made to order omelets were wonderful and they serve Starbucks coffee. I'm sure it wont be long once word gets out what a great place this is. Stay here and I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

“Excellent Choice in the Dulles Area”

Hotel Sierra Washington Dulles

Denver, CO

My husband stayed at this hotel for a few nights in early December 2007 and loved it. He was given a free night voucher during his stay, and we utilized this voucher together in early January when we were back in the area.

This hotel is definitely the best kept secret in Dulles! We were one of just a few guests at the hotel during our stay, and my husband said it was the same way when he was there the month prior.

The hotel is modern and classic at the same time. The lobby is almost 5 star quality - very sleek and sharp looking. The color scheme of the hotel is one of the nicest I have seen - not too many colors or crazy designs.

Our room was great. There is a large flat screen tv in the room that received over 80 channels. The bed was comfortable (though the pillows went flat as soon as you put your head down), with a great, soft comforter. The bed is on the hard side, but not uncomfortably hard.

The bathroom has a glass shower with no door - the glass comes across about halfway - very modern. The shower head comes down from the ceiling and is large, so it feels as if you are standing under a rain shower. The soaps and shampoos were very, very nice - I can't remember the brand, but they were much nicer than average.

There is a free breakfast in the morning where they have someone who will make you a made to order omelet. They have everything else from bacon and sausage to eggs to french toast to fruit and yogurt.

Staff was very friendly. We did not interact with them aside from our check in and check out, but everyone smiled and was very polite.

Overall, this is an excellent choice - probably the best in the Dulles area. I don't know how long it will last before everyone starts to figure out what a great place it is. I enjoyed the peace and quiet while we were there - not sure if it will be like that in a few months though!

“Sleek new hotel”

3/4 found this review helpful

I stayed at the new Sierra Hotel from Nov 6-8, 2007. I come to DC frequently and have been staying at the Country Inn and Suites. When I saw that the Sierra was open, I decided to give it a try. It's a wonderful, modern hotel for the price. Since it recently opened, they were still working out some quirks (my key stopped working, the phone didn't work), but I'm sure they will be resolved. The decor is very sleek and reminicent of a much more expensive hotel. The free breakfast was also excellent. While the layout of the rooms have some small problems, I was very please overall.

The pros:
-brand new, sleek decor
-excellent free breakfast
-studio suites for a reasonable price (kitchen amenieties)
-well equiped workout room with chilled towels
-Starbucks coffee in the room
-good location for Dulles and northern virginia
-friendly, accomodating staff
-great outdoor pool area (which I didn't get to use because it was closed for the season but peeked at)

The cons:
-slightly weird layout of the bathroom in the studio suite. The sink area has no place to hang towel or washcloth
-can't use sink wtih closet doors open
-TV can't be watched from both beds at same time
-No workdesk for laptop (only kitchen table where chair is too low to be comfortably used)

Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel
