April 21st throught the 30th.
Our stay at the Surfside was nothing but excellent. The entire staff, including all thoses at the front desk and the manager, Richard, were efficiency at its best. There was nothing we wanted for during our stay. The entire staff could not do enough for us. Any of our requests, no matter how difficult, was received and carried out with prompt and cheerful results. We can't say enough about our stay.
The iceing on the cake occured on the day we were checking out. The main reason for our stay at your hotel was to visit with our grandson who is in the US Navy and stationed at Norfolk Naval Base on the carrier, Enterprise. After breakfast at the Maple Tree restaurant accross the street from the hotel, we returned to the hotel to freshen up in our room before heading back to our home in Bronxville, New York. My wife went to our auto parked in the hotel parking lot to get something and our grandson and I waited for her by the front door of the hotel. As it turned out.....I placed my camera case on the bench and waited for my wife's return. After her return the three of us returned to our room. I wanted to take a couple of final photos of our grandson and the beach and went for my camera....It's then that I realized it was not in the room. For some reason I was sure I had left it in the restaurant and raced down to see if the camera was where we sat or if not.....if someone had found it and turned it in to the management. Needless to say the camera was not there. I was just so positive that I'd left it in the restaurant that I didn't bother to ask in the hotel if a camera had been found. As you can imagine...our trip back to New York was not a very pleasant experience. The next day, we received a call from the hotel manager, Richard Lingenfelter, who informed us that my camera had been found by the bellman (do not know his name) on the bench just outside the entrance into the hotel and had turned it into Richard. I din't have my name in the camera case so Richard did not know who the camera belonged to. He waited 24 hours in hopes the owner would call inquiring as to a lost camera but did not receive any calls. He then used his common sense and decided to review any photos (It was a digital camera with a memory stick) that was in the camera to see if any of the staff might recognize any of the subjects in the photos as being hotel guests. Sure enough, I had taken photos in the lobby of myself, my wife and our grandson prior to going to breakfast and, Michell Turner, on duty at the front desk at the time, recognized our faces. Mystery solved!
Richard mailed the camera to us that day and I just received the camera via UPS about an hour ago. What can I say? There were about 225 photos on the memory stick which reresented all the photos I took during our stay. Photos that were not replaceable.
Again....I can't say enough about our VERY memorable and most pleasant stay at your hotel. Our grandson will begin his new assignement at Camp David, in Thurmont, MD, on May 26th but you can be assured we will definitely return to your hotel on a regular basis to experience more of your excellence in hotel operations.
Sincerely,
Paul and Nora Kardian
