My husband and I wanted an easy weekend get away to escape the city and recoup from the exhausting holiday season. We wanted something not too far of a drive, but far enough away that we would really have a chance to un-plug. We could not have picked a better spot than the Foster Harris B&B. The four-course breakfast is decadent (better than the best restaurants in DC)and the serving time flexible upon special request. The hosts, John and Diane, are warm, kind and available to answer any and all questions. They run a very organized B&B while maintaining a casual, relaxed atmosphere. The grounds are meticulously maintained and the views magnificent. The spa quality bedding and linens, L'Occitane bath products and spa-grade bathrooms, evening turn-down service, in-room love seats and electric stoves elevate this B&B far above any B&B I've stayed in. Fresh coffee and tea are available self-service at 7:00am prior to the gourmet breakfast. We took advantage of the bike rental and received helpful instruction from John, a route card to follow and when we found ourselves 3 miles from the inn after the sun had set and the temperature dipping, headlights crested the hill behind us and John pulled up to give us a lift back. We didn't even have to call to be rescued...John knew when we had gone out and had realized we were not back after the sun set. We could not have been more thrilled to jump in his warm, clean car with our bikes in the back! They provided dining suggestions and pre-printed directions (we were not up for a big fancy dinner at the neighboring Little Inn at Washington).
I would have liked an in-room TV, although, not having one in the room did make for more rest, reading and romantic time with my husband.
The added high quality touches are reflective of the owners and their understanding of what makes the difference between a 'nice' place to stay and a place that you hope to stay at often. We plan to be back very soon and to bring a group of friends back in the sping for the Tour d'Epicure. Book your stay at Foster Harris House now! You won't regret it.
