“Not a Marriott... Not worth the money.”
I've stayed a many hotels, Marriott and otherwise... this hotel is barely in the Okay standing.
First off, our rooms were not ready at 2pm... it happens... we were prechecked and came back later. The staff was pleasant, though the bellhops just stand there... I usually take my luggage anyway, but they didn't even make an effort, unusual.
I had a friend staying in another room and they were basically the same. My bathroom's toilet looked like Bigfoot had dropped one in it... maybe roto-rooter was over zealous in the last cleaning, but the toilets had deep scratches and brown stains on the bottom... disgusting. There's no fan in the bathroom, so it's sauna time if you take a hot shower. The maids didn't replace the conditioner or mouth wash on two of the three nights.
The room itself is pleasent, a little aged, but nice. The bathrooms are the real let down for the rooms. Becareful with the door locks, I had read another person having door problems and made sure to doubly check mine, but for both rooms we had to slam the doors open and closed most of the time. Annoying... The locking mechanism needs to be replaced. The bathrooms need an overhaul.
The beds are the only thing that is Marriott standard. Very comfortable and cuddly. If all you are hoping for is a great nights sleep, then this is the place.
The pool and jacuzzi are disgusting. You might as well swim in the toilet... it smells funny and not in a chlorine good way. If you do go in... don' t put your head in and definately take an hour shower afterwards. Their whole pool area needs to be renovated.
The breakfast came with our room and was very filling. I loved the little waffles with whipped cream and strawberries. Excellent breakfast and service in morning.
The Pitcher's bar is a great place to hang out. The pool tables are smaller sized and the two tables are a bit cramped ~ try to grab the single table up stairs instead of the two up stairs. They have a busy staff, but they are friendly. Don't order anything, too, particular. The Martini's I ordered sucked, so we switched to beer and Long Island Iced Teas. They don't offer any happy hour or reduced prices for guests. The bar is moderate to expensive for it's food and drinks. Good views of everything going on in the hotel ~ pool, hall to conventions, etc.
There were a couple groups for conventions that made the place entertaining. They have an excellent set up for large group parties.
Parking is adequate and location to Busch Gardens, Water World USA, Jamestown, Yorktown, Colonial WIlliamsburg are all close ~ but so are 80% of all the other hotels in the area. Everything is basically 10 miles from everything else. We stayed in off season, so maybe the near exclusive location is more cherished in busy season.
Overall, if I was on any kind of a budget then I wouldn't stay here. The only really stand out for this hotel is the beds. Everything else is was WAY below standard for what I would expect of a higher end Marriott. I don't understand how this hotel would even be considered a three star with so many let downs.
One word: Renovation~~!
