I have stayed in Winchester many times, but never at the Super 8 and thought I could save some money this way. The place had a really strange smell, but I decided to check in and take the chance. As soon as I walked into the back door toward my room at around 5 pm there were people having an argument across the hall about drugs and infidelity. I walked into my room and found the furniture looked quite dirty. I didn't feel safe or comfortable. I went right back to the desk and checked out. The person at the desk was nice about my leaving, even offering a discount and promising to resolve the problem. I would not stay in the place again, as it doesn't appear to be a safe place for someone travelling alone and definitely not a place to take your kids.

We chose this hotel because it looked like a good stopping point for the night on our road trip. I didn't have high expectations considering it's a budget hotel, but I was really disappointed. The neighborhood was pretty rough. The staff seemed genuinely annoyed with me when I came to check in, and there were several people just loitering in the lobby. There was a pungent smell throughout the hotel. There was a large, mysterious black fuzzy growth in the corner of the room. On the other hand, the bed, cable choice and the wi-fi were all fine. It's a place to sleep, and the price wasn't bad at all. I'm no luxury hotel snob, and I can tolerate all sorts of conditions to save a few bucks, but this was pushing it.

Nicest (warm, friendly, caucasian, English-speaking staff) of any Super 8 we have visited. Safe neighborhood. Hoss's Steak restaurant across the street. Very handy to I-81 exit. Best price in the area (using hotels(--)). Nice breakfast.
