I like the Ridpath, and I would stay there again. My wife on the other hand is not as forgiving as I am, and on our next trip to Spokane she would prefer to stay somewhere else. This Hotel is no longer owned by West Coast Hotels, and is a dramatically different experience from when I reviewed this Hotel in November of 2005. The Hotel's main elevators are not working and, apparently, have not been working for some time. This requires guests to access their floor from the freight elevator in the Kitchen. Ice Machines are not available on all floors the machine on 10 worked the machine on 9 did not. The lobby has been renovated by the owners of the Artisan Hotel in Las Vegas, and I think they presently own the Ridpath and are attempting to turn this property in to Adult focused boutique hotel. However, their efforts in over a year have only changed the lobby and the Bar area, and little else. I have stayed at the ridpath 4 times since 2005, and the rooms in the main hotel are the same. I have always found the rooms to be basic, and clean, with a small functional bathroom. There is an Iron and Ironing board in the closet, which I have used when I am on business.
The rooms in the Hotel's executive court, where the pool once was, have been sold to a developer, and are no longer part of the hotel. There is no pool, no room service, no car valet, and no bellman as their were in 2005. Ankeny's, the Rooftop Restaurant, is closed (the elevator situation obviously does not help here). The Lobby restaurant, the Artisan room, does not serve breakfast. The food there is supposed to be good, but I only had appetizers there last August (they were ok) so my knowledge of that restaurant is limited.
There were problems with my reservation I had booked a King size room, but got a queen. This was resolved on the second and third day of my stay. However, I had personally confirmed this a week prior, and it was irritating to me that a King Size bed was not waiting for me when I arrived. My wife had trouble with housekeeping disturbing her when she had placed a do not disturb sign on the door.
Again, the rooms in the main hotel are small, and the bathrooms are small. There are no suites in the Hotel, just larger rooms with Kingsize beds at the end of the hall next to the street. The room was clean, although the telephones and Ice Bucket still carried the West Coast logo.
For what I paid on Hotels.com I believe I got my money's worth. The hotel is two blocks from Davenport Hotel and also about four blocks from the convention center. There are some excellent restaurants within walking distance, and Nordstrom's and Macy's are within walking distance as well.
The evening desk clerk was helpful with checking in, and helpful resolving other issues with the room. However, those issues should not have arisen in the first place, and unless the hotel gets the elevators and ice machines fixed, and starts offering a continental breakfast on the mezzanine level from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., it will continue to get very negative reviews. Also, the owner's of the Hotel will need to spend a significant sum of money to perform, deferred maintenance, clean and repair the hotel's signage, and at a minimum repaint and spruce up the rooms. That will be what is minimally required before the hotel starts to get good reviews again.
