Quickie Too is an experience. A tiny shop in Tacoma's ML King neighborhood with a surprising combination... Good ol' Southern Soul Food infused with a Jamaican flair, that's all vegetarian!
Just know that you're going to get a warm, cozy, tasty home-cooked type of meal here, don't go expecting it to live up to it's "quickie" name. Doesn't need to, the wait is WELL worth it.
Ten or so tables with neat, colorful tablecloths fill a small cafe that looks better inside than out. You may not be greeted immediately but not to fear, this is a small operation and the waitstaff also help in the kitchen. They'll pop their heads out and greet you warmly when they get a moment.
Menus are at the counter if not on your table; grab one, have a seat and enjoy the reggae music and walls that are practically a shrine to Bob Marley.
As noted, all the food here is entirely animal free. Actually entirely vegan. But don't dismiss it because you're not into seeds and sprouts. I've never seen either of those here. Tofu, yes, but "disguised" and cooked in a manner I cannot describe. You may want seconds!! I've taken many a "real-meat-and-potatoes" person here and they always came away surprised, satisfied and wanting to return.
There are sandwiches, wraps and veggie burgers of every type, dinners with tofu steaks that are scary-realistic, flavorful and delicious, mashed taters and an herb-filled gravy I'd drink out of a mug if they served it that way, savoury collard greens, black-eyed peas, bread pudding and sweet-potato pie. They also offer a great vegan Sunday Brunch with tofu and grain-based "bacon" and "sausage", grits, gravy, scrambled tofu that's a perfect copy of any eggs you'd ever want, corn pudding, tender blueberry muffins and wonderful coffee cake.
Not always the "healthy-bland-vegetarian" stereotyped fare you're probably expecting but a great and easy-to-overlook little gem hidden away in a part of Tacoma you might not think of as a restaurant mecca. Anyone craving some spice or some southern soul - or willing to try vegetarian food can find something delicious here, but if you're trying to feed the family vegetarian or vegan it's WELL worth finding!!
