We stayed at the Comfort Suites Tukwila from 6-29 to 7-1-07. The public areas (always make first impression good or bad) was impressive. The pool area was nice; the business center was a little small for the number of guest rooms and people staying at the hotel; the breakfast area looked large until the guests congregated there for breakfast in the morning. The employees in the breakfast area were very helpful and competent. The arrangement of the food line and seating should have been better thought-out, because it was bottlenecked most of the time, and there was never enough seating for everyone. If they had provided trays, people could have at least taken their food back to their rooms to eat.
Our room was comfortable, but the toilet malfunctioned. I informed the front desk staff the next morning, expecting the problem to be fixed by the end of the day. Unfortunately, it was not , and we had to MANUALLY manipulate the inner fixtures to get the thing to at least function for the night. In fact, the following morning the toilet plugged up, and it took over 1/2 hour for anyone to at least bring the plunger up to our room (we were in the process of checking out - not very good timing.)
After we had left and were on our way to Spokane, we realized that 5 items of clothing had been left in the closet to finish drying. I called, and the front desk staff informed me that I would need to fax a credit card confirmation to them requesting that they mail the clothes to me, because they didn't know how much the postage would be! Having had my debit card number stolen and illegally used online, I was not about to do that, and they would not accept a money order or check unless the amount was left blank (for them to fill it in~!). We were at the Seattle airport on 7-2, and I called them to request that they bag up our clothes and have the courtesy van driver run them over to meet me at the front door at the airport. Of course, they were not cooperative with that idea. FINALLY, after I returned to Lincoln, NE, we were able to schedule a call tag/prearranged pickup with UPS. Unfortunately, it took 2 or 3 'tries' for the Comfort Suites Tukwila staff to get their act together and have our clothes packaged up and waiting for the UPS driver to pick them up. I received them yesterday, 7-27-07, ALMOST ONE MONTH AFTER WE REQUESTED THAT THEY BE RETURNED TO US! If I were the manager of any lodging establishment, I would have just met the customer at the airport with the package, or I would have sent them to them. This was very unprofessional and a good way to kill future business.
I hope that the corportate office takes a good look at this property and sends some people in to retrain their employees on excellence and necessity of optimal customer service techniques and good, positive communication skills. If not, the Comfort Suites Tukwila will eventually do itself in with its lack of those basic offerings to their customers.
