Overall, our stay at Coolfont was Interesting - we never could quite get comfortable because so many things were odd. First, the beach was covered in muck and there was no way I'd step foot on it (we didn't see anyone on the beach during our stay, which was a clue as to its cleanliness) - unfortunate for a lovely July weekend. We were advised to bring our bathing suits to soak in the hot tub before our treatments, but there was only one hot tub for the entire resort... by the way the hot tub was played up, we thought there'd be several of them at least. Despite other accounts, we found the locker rooms and pool area to be acceptably clean (though not wonderful). The main disappointment, though, was the food. I was expecting spa food - healthy, gourmet, maybe a little exotic. After dinner the first night, I hoped never to have to eat at the treetop restaurant again - but alas, 3 more meals since we were on the meal plan. I will admit to a little food snobbery (I love fresh, organic, quality food - this food didn't even meet Old Country Buffet standards). The breakfast buffet consisted of typical sub-par items - dry, cold french toast, overcooked pancakes (rock hard on one side), greasy bacon, dry home fries. The fruit looked like it had been used for breakfast several days before - soggy, flavorless. (There were fresh blueberries, and they were good.) Even the coffee was bad. I didn't know there was an option to opt-out, but my advice? If you're at all a picky eater (or have any special preferences, organic, vegetarian, fresh, prefer food not to be cooked beyond recognition) opt out of the meal plan.
The chalet was very rustic, and pretty much just what I expected. We enjoyed our spa treatments and found the spa staff to be very friendly and courteous.
Unless I rented a cabin with a full kitchen, I don't see myself returning to CoolFont again - the food was just that bad (not to mention the flies in the dining room).
