“New Years Eve in Cabin ... GREAT”

My Wife and I on a lark decided to go to Berkley Springs and I thought the Lodge was at the Springs. It isn't but it didn't matter. We went for New Years Eve and stayed two nights, 30-31. We stayed in a deluxe cabin ( we booked too late for the lodge). the Cabin was great. It was very clean. Well heated and comfy. There was a TV and a great fire place with wood provided (but you need kindling or an articial log. No phone or clock or anyone over head.

Towels are thin, but work and no kleenex in room that I could find. Didn't need the kitchen but it was well appointed for a cabin.

Lodge is nothing great except for the rocking chairs that face the golf course. The weather was so warm that we sat out there and rocked a while. We had dinner at the lodge both nights, Food is okay and service friendly. Desk Staff was okay but you know you are at a state park. Great grond to walk around.

It is about 9 miles from Berkley Springs where I had a Roman Bath and a message, a reat price. I give the town a 2 to 3 on the "Qauintness Scale" and the art place we went to were nice. Met on of the artists showing work. We at at Tari's and it was good, great soup large wraps. On New Year's Day we are Breakfast at the Inn next to the State Spa. The help did not show up so the innkeeper andher husband were doing dining room duty. Wife''s wafffel was good but my country ham was over pirced and dry. Oh well, don't judge this place on my experience, because if we go back to the area we will stay there.

If you've never stayed in cabin and are a litle fearful od the facilities ( our daughter had a bad experiece in an Ohio Sate Park regarding dust etc.) you should not be afraid of Cacapon.

It is Clean, Warm and Comfortable.

We stayed here for a couple of mid-week nights and were happy with it. We stayed in the lodge, which is charming and rustic with rooms that were comfortable, but nothing special. The restaurant downstairs has good breakfast/lunch for the price. There was a bunch to do for the recreationally inclined: tennis, basketball, volleyball, nice-looking golf course--we didn't play--a little lake for swimming/paddleboating, fishing, a timewarp of a game room full of classic old video games and lots of hiking. Beware: the longest/most strenuous trail (forget the name) is more challenging than you'd think. We're in decent shape but were gasping before we made it to the top. Very pretty though, we were glad we did it. All in all, it was a nice state park-y type of experience, though the $85 per night (including tax) felt a tad high for mid-week. But we'd go back.
Other Berkeley Springs recs: Atasia Spa (very relaxing/great massages, not too expensive); the Panorama restaurant (great food/view); Tari's (friendly/very good food/great post-spa lunch spot)

We stayed at the Cacapon State Resort and Park in one of their standard cabins for under $70 per night(weeknight price). It had a full kitchen/bath/fireplace/ac/ heat/etc - however no clock, radio or tv which was fine for us.

The bedding and kitchen items were dated and could be upgraded, but the value can't be beat. If you are driving you can always bring an extra blanket and plates/glasses. We did bring our pillows, but I am fussy about those and always travel with my pillow! If you stay in the standard cabin, I would bring a radio or something for some music just because it was a little too quiet for my suburbianess.

Cacapon had tons to offer folks visiting - golfing, great hiking, swimming with a beach(open Memorial Day), tennis, etc.

Cacapon is about 10 miles outside of the Berkeley Springs town where all the spas are located which I kind of missed that before but it is an easy drive.

We would definitely go back there again.

We stayed at the Cacapon Resort lodge last January as part of a spa package with Berkeley Springs State Park. The rooms were small but clean and in good repair, with rustic pine paneling. The lounge and fireplace downstairs are very pleasant. Other than that there is nothing to do in winter except go hiking or snowshoeing in the park. The restaurant is a good basic place for breakfast. It's about a 15-minute drive on a state highway to the spa and shopping in downtown Berkeley Springs.

If I were to come back for another spa weekend in winter, I'd try to stay in town. The lodge would be a good place for golfers in the warmer months or for hikers at any time of year.

I stayed at the lodge at the Cacapon State Park for two weekend nights in the winter, and thought it was nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and it was very reasonable price-wise; I liked it and would not hesitate to stay there again. The only reason that I gave it an average rating was that it is pretty basic. If you're looking for a modern hotel room with all of the amenities that that entails, you might be a bit disappointed. But if you like staying in more rustic settings, you'll probably really like it.

Now, for some details:
Room- If you've seen the virtual tour on the website, the lodge rooms look EXACTLY like they look on there. Wood paneling, one twin bed, one double bed, small bedside table with lamp, small eating table with two chairs, a phone, a tv, and a dresser. They provide cups and an ice bucket, and extra blankets in the dresser drawer (we had to ask). In terms of size, it's about half of the size of a regular room at a moderately priced hotel like the Hampton Inn. There were two of us, and it was fine, but I wouldn't try and fit more than three into the room. The rooms were very clean and the beds and pillows were comfortable.

Bathroom- Small but clean and in good shape. It's very basic, a shower/tub, a toilet, a mirror, and a sink (with a small shelf on which to put your things). They give you a small basket of toiletries, but there are no amenities like you'd find at a regular hotel (hair dryer, coffee maker, etc.). Plenty of towels are provided.

Amenities (room)- I included most of the amenities (or lack thereof) in the descriptions above, but I should mention that things that are standard fare at most hotels now, such as alarm clocks, were not provided.

Lodge itself- Had a restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (ate breakfast once: cheap, fast, friendly service, great view, so-so quality), a lodge room with a fireplace (large room, great fireplace, comfortable, decorated sort of like an old-age home though), a gift shop, a rec room (didn't visit), and a banquet room (didn't visit).

State Park- Because it was winter, and there was snow on the ground, we didn't see the golf course or really take advantage of the state park, but it looked beautiful. In the summer it must be really nice. They apparently have a lake and rent horses and everything. We were told by some other travelers that the state park cabins are really exceptional and to try staying there in the future.

Location- on Rte 522 about 10 miles South of the town of Berkeley Springs. It was a nice drive, but if you want to be able to walk to the spas or shops, this is definitely too far away for that.

All in all it was a nice place to stay for a weekend trip to Berkeley Springs. I hope this review was helpful (as I was planning the trip there wasn't too much info out there on the lodge).
