My husband surprised me with a weekend away for our 19th anniversary.
We were told not to eat anything or very little in the afternoon because we were going to be served a 5 course meal for dinner. Although the food was exceptional and plentiful, we devoured it because we didn’t eat until 7:30pm. It would have been nice to know the time so that we could have grabbed something small earlier in the day.
Breakfast the next 2 days wasn’t until 9:00 am, and they didn’t provide coffee until we sat down to eat. Unacceptable!!!. My husband and I are very early risers. We had to get into the car and drive down to the Sheets for coffee both days."STRIKE 1"
I was a bit disappointed that the handicap ramp was blocked due to deterioration. Steps are difficult for me due to some physical limitations.
We were checked in by Daryl, who was very charming. As he started to go thru the list of things that we were scheduled for and the things that were broke or needed repaired like the Pool, I was starting to feel like maybe this was a mistake.
Not knowing what my husband paid for the weekend, I was shocked that it was $150.00 per person/ per night. I was thinking, it better be good!
Thankfully, our room was on the 1st floor. It was nicely furnished and bright. They had to get me a step stool to get in and out of the bed because it was so high. It had French doors that led out to deteriorating deck with too many bees for me. Thankfully we were on the 1st floor because the water pressure was really bad, Can't imagine what it was like upstairs..
I wanted more than anything to use the pool, but it was out of service needing a new liner and appeared to need much more than that to get it up and running.
We did use the hot tub at 104 degrees inside and 95degrees outside, it was nice and relaxing.
The Inn itself is quite nice. It does require some maintenance, as older places do.
Our spa day was very nice. We were greeted and treated with respect. The place was clean and in order, and they were on time with their appointments.
We arrived early in hopes to use the sauna and steam room. We were told that the steam room was out of service, and that it has been out of service for quite some time. “STRIKE 2”.
On check out, we finally got to meet Chase, the owner of this establishment. The only time we saw him all weekend was when he was cutting the grass on check-in and going back and forth to the kitchen, Apparently he was also the Chef, and a great Chef he was. The only problem with the food, is that he would not cook my lamb chops med rare. We were told that it was a WV law. We were surprised that other restaraunts it he area offered their meat cooked any way you liked it. I think this was his preference. If I would have known that in the beginning, I would have ordered something else. It was good, but would have been better cooked the way I wanted it cooked.
We finnally got to meet Chase on checkout.
We had a problem with our credit card and he was kind enough to leave the room for us to work it out. They only accept Visa/Mastercard, and we only carry cash and Amx. The Visa that we had, we have not used in a long time and it had to be reactivated and would take 24hrs. He would not accept cash from us or any other credit card. We used our debit card which they don’t like to accept either. Imagine him not excepting “cash”.
I don’t think we will come back to this establishment. They didn’t deduct anything off the cost of the weekend, even though things were broke and out of order. The owners were never around, Chase never searched us out to introduce himself or to greet us. He was in his PJ’s when we were checking out and I just felt that it was not very business like.
I feel the cost did not justify the stay. Again, the food was exceptional and plentiful, it was clean, and bright, but at $150.00 per person per night, was a bit pricey to include all that was broken or out of order.
I tried to send them a letter to inform them of our stay, but it was returned to me for incorrect address. I have tried to find in their website an address without success. I addressed it to them, New Hope Rd, but it was not deliverable, so here is my chance to let them know how it went.
