I'm pleased to add my endorsement of the Village Green Lodge to the many others on this page. The one word I would use to describe our whole experience is COMFORTABLE. We stayed four nights over this past Columbus Day weekend. We'd been hoping for crispy cool fall days but got instead uncharacteristically hot and humid weather. Happily, the climate in our room was very easy to control. At night the heater worked excellently; the windows were well position for good cross ventilation, and in the late afternoon the ceiling fan (with not one speck of dust on it, like everything else, by the way) was a blessing. All of that was really appreciated.

As noted above, the lodge is spotless, and our large room had big windows and was well-furnished; the bathroom was adequate, with fast hot water, good pressure, and abundant soft, absorbent towels. The TV gets lots of good cable stations and there's a stock-it-yourself mini-fridge. The bath also had a good hair dryer and the usual soaps and shampoos. No closet in our room, though, just a rack with lots of wooden hangars.

The hosts, Sue and Steve Sherman, are warm, infinitely helpful, and very obviously hard-working. The breakfasts are generous and include a good balance of non-sweet, non-fat options (hot oatmeal and various dry cereals and skim milk), fruit salads of varying kinds, toast, bagels, but also each day something sweet and yummy (hope Sue fixes the sticky pecan buns while you're there - they're great!) and a "bake" of some kind that seemed to include eggs, cheese, and meat like ham or sausage. Let them know if you need something you don't see - one day the juice was cherry-berry, and when I asked for OJ instead it was graciously and promptly provided.

Another of the Village Green's pluses is that it is a block off the main drag, so it is blessedly quiet at night, but within very easy walking distance of the lake shore, the Old Post Office (best fish-boils on the peninsula) and, in the other direction, the Chef's Hat for excellent casual meals. (Speaking of excellent, don't forget to have a dinner at The Shoreline restaurant up in Gill's Rock - so amazing!)

Bird lovers will enjoy the many visitors to the carefully maintained feeders where different seeds and suet attract all kinds of local wildlife, including blue jays, nuthatches, woodpeckers, doves, and squirrels and chipmunks.

If I had to change anything, it would be the decor, which is, well, out-dated. The common room where breakfast and an afternoon treat (all home-made, and wonderful) are served, is very nice. But the rooms definitely could use a little updating. A good start would be to throw out all of the many bunches of artificial flowers, which, though not dusty, are faded and just kinda' out of style. The flowery prints and bird pictures on the walls are also a little faded, and could go too, for instant improvement. The bathroom could definitely use some new tiles on the walls and floor.

But overall, the slightly fusty decor in the sleeping rooms is no reason not to stay at this lovely, well-located, and very well-priced inn!

Suite was large, clean and comfortable; hosts were friendly, knowledgeable and accomodating; and breakfasts were filling, varied and delicious. This inn is as close as you can get to a B&B without being one.

An area for improvement: The positioning of the television above the fireplace in suites, which is at an awkward angle related to the couch and unviewable while in bed, together with its small size, made its viewing uncomfortable and inconvenient at times --- a small fact that may be important to guests like us just looking to hybernate in the room.

Prospective guests should also be aware that the phrase relating to being open all year long found in certain promotional materials relates to the inn and not the heated pool, and that the use of the whirpool tub in suites is restricted during morning hours, albeit for legitimate reasons related to noise and availability of hot water.

We have been staying at the Village Green Lodge once a year for the past 12years and each year we wish we had time to stay longer. The Sherman's are extremely gracious hosts. They always make sure we stay in our favorite room. Sue makes the most delicious full breakfast each day. We have been going to Door County for close to 40years and are so happy we found the Village Green Lodge.
Sincerely,

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Door County where we hadn’t been for years. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Village Green Lodge in Ephraim. Steve and Sue Sherman make the perfect host and hostess. The adult-only facility is located one block off the highway in a quiet, relaxing residential area. The rooms are very clean and tastefully decorated. The morning breakfast buffets are outstanding and different every day. After spending time relaxing in the outdoor pool or on the deck in the afternoon, the mid-afternoon home-baked cookies are a delicious treat. Sue and Steve are also very helpful in providing information regarding eating and entertainment and will gladly make reservations for you. The next time we return to Door County we definitely will stay again at The Village Green Lodge.

“Door County Delight-- The Village Green Lodge”

From the time of making our reservation thru to our checkout time, our experience with The Village Green Lodge and its warm and accommodating hosts, Sue and Steve Sherman, was a delight. The inn itself was charming in decor and ambience and spotlessly clean-- always a plus!! And the hosts were fun and hospitable to the nth degree. When I returned from one excursion with sour cherry juice ( what can I say? Those cherries are delicious) all over my summer seersucker outfit, Sue very kindly saved the day and returned it to me crisp and clean to wear another day. Both Sue and Steve seemed to work non-stop to see to the needs of their fullhouse, but with good cheer and always the time to make recommendations as requested by their guests. And I brought home a cookbook collection of Sue's tasty recipes as served at the Lodge to remind me of those wonderful breakfasts when we met and became friends with their other guests.

It was our first trip to Door County and the Village Green Lodge, but be assured it will not be our last. Don't miss it!
