“Okay time at the Polynesian”

Polynesian Resort Hotel

23 Jul 2008

Our family of 3 stayed here for 3 nights in July. We booked a 2 room family suite which consisted of 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the second floor for $199/night. We found the room to be kind of dirty and run-down. There was an old/used bar of soap on the floor of the shower. The bedspreads were torn/stained. Found mold in both bathrooms. Lots of crumbs in the corners of the rooms. Not exactly the "suite" we expected. The waterpark was kind of run down too. The loungers were horrible, almost dangerous the way they sagged and drooped to the floor. The tables were dirty - ketchup on one table stayed there the whole 3 days we were there. Obviously no one is in charge of wiping them down.

Was it all bad? NO! I thought the lifeguards did a good job. Yes, they blow their whistles (as another poster reported) but it was necessary every time I saw them do it. Lots of running, climbing up the waterslides, splashing the little ones - stuff that needed to be stopped in order to maintain a safe environment. Some parents were ticked off their kids were "getting the whistle" but I was glad someone actually cared enough to enforce the rules.

The waterpark had lots of fun stuff for the little ones. My daughter especially enjoyed the pirate ship area. Obviously this place is geared for kids under 10. Anyone older will probably be bored very quickly. It's big and spread out but does not have the "thrill rides" the older kids will want to try.

All the employees were very kind and professional. The restaurant and bar were good but pricey. A margarita was $6.50, a kids hot dog meal (fries and drink included) was $7.50. We chose to eat off the property for most of our stay but the restaurant did come in handy for quick "pool food" when we got hungry.

If this place could tackle the cleanliness issue, I think they would do very well. There is a plan to update the hotel later this year and I hope that includes the rooms, not just the waterpark facilities.

Would I recommend this place? If you have little ones who enjoy the smaller water slides/games/pools but don't mind the outdated, dingy rooms - yes. If you are looking for an upscale resort facility with lots of thrill rides - go elsewhere.

We decided to go to the Dells for a 2 night stay since we were not going on a big vacation this year. First off, when I called to book the room, they discounted the price per night!!! I would say this is a great place for kids under 10, they have one waterslide outside and a body slide outside along with a lazy river and numerous other childrens play areas, 2 outdoor hot tubs, a tiki bar outside, then the inside waterpark has one waterslide and one body slide plus a small lazy river and another childrens play area. Our kids are 10,7,5 and they had a blast! Our room was what we expected, we stayed in the luxury suite room 115 and it had a room with a king bed and then a pull out couch in the living area. The only thing wrong I can think of, was the tv was fuzzy and our room smelled of smoke, even though it was non smoking. But those are such minor things. The housekeepers did a great job touching up our room the second day, they got all the crumbs off the floor!! The tiki bar has great food for great prices, the pizza, burgers, onion rings are all really good. They have a cup you can buy for $10 and you can have unlimited pop for your stay, very good deal considering we drink alot! There are 2 game rooms, one is upstairs of the indoor waterpark and it actually gives you tickets you can redeem for prizes! There was another little indoor pool right by the tiki bar and front desk that had a childrens play area and a deeper pool with basketball hoops plus a hot tub. There was plenty of seating inside and out, and we never had to wait in line to use the waterslides. The weather was a little iffy but they had a guy keeping an eye on the sky and several times they had to close the outside waterpark. I was very impressed and will definately return to this hotel, all the other waterpark hotels are very pricy and for what we can afford per night this hotel is perfect! Consider this, The Polynesian was the very first waterpark in the Dells so of course it isn't going to be as fancy as all the newer ones!

We normally stay at the Kalahari but with the economic changes we thought we’d try to conserve but will never make that mistake again; I guess it’s true; you get what you pay for.

First, I have never heard of a check-in at 4pm; that’s almost the whole day when you have kids who want to visit the water park. Yes, we had the opportunity to use it (the water park) while our room was being cleaned but had no where to bring our things or change (unless we used the restroom which was not somewhere I wanted to use as a restroom let alone somewhere to change my clothing).

After arriving we left and went to have lunch, the desk lady said we could check in by 1.

We called at 1 and the room was ready. We went up to out rooms, and the stench that was in the hallways and elevator was unbearable.

We did change and went to the pool; the chairs at the pool are very worn and the towels were so small, they are something that I would wash and dry my car with.

But we did enjoy the day and the small water park area. Which by the way, we did look at the indoor water park and it was very small; glad the weather was nice so we could at least be outside.

After our night out in the heart of the Dells and doing some shopping, we came back to rest and the beds were so uncomfortable and the lining on the underside was sagging down, there were no “fitted” sheets on the beds, they had flat sheets that when we woke, were completely off the bed form tossing & turning.

When showering or using the sink in the room, I would have to say that you would need to have someone look at the way they drain; the water was standing in both the sink and shower.

We enjoyed our stay but sorry to say that we will not visit your hotel again when we are back in the Dells and will continue to stay where we know and expect better attractions and service.

I just returned from a basketball tournament where our team booked eight rooms for two nights at the Polynesian Resort in WI Dells. It is safe to say all familes were greatly disappointed. One left the facility and moved to another hotel while another had to change rooms because of the mold and mildew in the bathroom. The facility was not clean and our room needed a good cleaning in all the corners, next to the baseboards, behind the furniture, etc. We found old food, dried boogers, a broken faucet, fuzzy tv reception, mold & mildew on the baseboards behind the toilet - all for the low price of $358 for two nights! Dropped food and liter was in the hallways from the day we arrived until we checked out. I asked to speak to a manager and all my comments were dismissed without any recourse. This place is definately not worth the money.

“Great Value, Great Experience -- Perfect for Kids Under 10!”

Just returned from a two-night stay with our daughters (ages 1 and 6). We had a great time at the Polynesian. I recommend the resort for children under age 10 -- older gets will probably want more thrills than the body slides and tube slides provide. The resort is a really nice size -- not so big you feel like you might get lost. Everyone we came in contact with was very pleasant and helpful. Our room was clean upon arrival, and they did a great job cleaning up during our stay (even all the little crumbs left behind by our messy little toddler). One thing we especially enjoyed was the Kozy Kids Korner. It has two Little Tykes slides, a play kitchen loaded with pretend food, soft floor furniture, puzzles, blocks, books, and a TV that plays cartoons -- there's even two rockers for parents. It was a great place for our toddler to unwind at the end of a long day -- and it was VERY clean! I wouldn't have known about this play area without checking their website -- they should promote it more on-site. We will probably continue to stay at the Polynesian anually until our oldest daughter is ready to transition to a bigger resort.

    • Liked — Not too big, yet had just what we were looking for -- a nice value.
    • Disliked — "Quiet Time" not enforced until 11:00 -- that's pretty late when you have little ones, although it did quiet down at 11:00 on the dot.
