My wife and I spent three nights at the Luanna during mid-October 2007. The inn is located 15-20 minutes south of the congested Kailua area. It sits on a very nice site with a good view of the ocean. The grounds of the inn are nicely maintained, as is the facility itself. We stayed in a room overlooking the pool. It was relatively comfortable, except the bed was a bit soft for our taste. There is a large common room where one can hang out and read books, check email on the desktop computer, and browse the menus and customized guide to local eateries. Ken and Erin switch off preparing breakfast in the morning. They do a great job and there is plenty of healthy, hardy food to eat. During our stay there was a bit of a problem with gnats, which seemed to be everywhere..but one has to remember that Hawaii is in the tropics. The pool also seemed to be inundated with dead bees. Those insect details aside, the stay was very enjoyable and I would recommend this inn for anyone that wants to explore the Kona side of the island away from crowded and increasingly overdeveloped Kailua.
