This was our first stay at the Fairmont Orchid and we would definitely return. The private beach was right outside our door and we found snorkeling to be great here, including the joy of seeing several sea turtles in the cove. Great pool, wonderful views from everywhere in the resort. We liked that it was more of an adult resort rather than the more kid friendly like the ones in Wailoka Village down the highway. The service was terrific at the hotel and at the Luana Lounge (tip - go there between 5-6:30 for 1/2 price appetizers and some drinks. Service was pretty good at the Beach House restaurant, however though the food was good, it wasn't worth the price and the portions were small. My husband had an entree, but no salad, and found himself still hungry. All the amenties and service are as you would expect from a resort in this price range. If you choose to snorkel however, rather than renting pricey gear at the hotel for $12 hr, we recommend once you get into the airport, head into Kona and rent weekly from Snorkel Bob's or Boss Frogs', which gets you the gear for about the same price, but for a full week. We had the breakfast buffet daily as it was included in our plan, which became very boring after day 3 - same cuisine pretty much, not much variety. All in all, beautiful, secluded resort, very romantic, will definitely return again. We have stayed here and the Four Seasons Hualalei and we actually prefer the layout of the property, convenience and service at this resort over the Four Seasons. Especialy for the price (very expensive rooms at the Four Seasons) over the Orchid, we would choose the Fairmont.
