Nice pool over the beach, well located.

My husband and I took our 3 children (3, 5, 6) to Kauai and spent 2 nights at RQ Makaiwa. Everyone we came in contact with was pleasant and helpful. The bellmen even gave the kids some boogie boards that were left by previous guests. What a treat for them!
The resort is clean and beautifully decorated in dark blues with lots of wood. It is in a great location, close to the airport, lots of shops, food and central to sightseeing. Cannot wait to go back!

“Great on Kauai”

ResortQuest Kauai Beach at Makaiwa

We stayed in February 2008 for 2 nights. The room was clean and very nice.

The pool and spa area are nice with bar and restaurant easily accessible. Although you can't swim at the beach there are great sunrises.

The staff was very friendly and there was ample parking.

“Nice except for fees”

Very clean and attractive. Can have a five minute+ wait trying to exit hotel drive when traffic is heavy which is 12 hours a day. There are inexpensive places to eat and grocery store just 15 minutes walk north , Use crosswalks to be safe. Got rude stares from waitresses when we sat at deserted patio table near bar - there were 6 other tables available - so I ordered a $3.75 small glass of Coke. The beach view is beautiful but one can't swim there safely due to rocks everywhere. I should have known the $119 per night rate that my wife was quoted was too good to be true because when she checked out the bill had a $12 per day resort fee added. She raised a huge objection since we didn't use any of the hotel's facilities, except the patio table, but we had to pay up. They do a good job "hiding" the fee by putting it into the sentence: "Tax recovery charge and fees." So one assumes the amount it just the tax. It was a nice place but left a really bitter taste in our mouths.

“Mostly fine”

We stayed at this hotel the first night we were in Kauai, then spent 2 days in a condo in Poipu. We came back to the hotel for another 3 nights. Overall, it was fine, with nicely appointed rooms, lots of parking, easy access to the coastline (not really much of a beach). The location of Kapaa is great, being in the middle of the south and north coasts. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to Safeway/Longs which makes things really convenient. Drawbacks:

- In both rooms, our air conditioning was faulty. In the first room, the fan never wouldn't turn off, making for a loud night. In the second room, the temp wouldn't change, so they came in and took the unit off the wall and taught us how to turn on and off the air by disconnecting and reconnecting the actual wires in the wall. A little ghetto, but the weather was nice, so we just slept with the sliding door open and the air off.
- In both rooms, the cable past a certain channel was all screwed up, with a frozen picture, and semi-working sound. The rest of the channels were fine.
- The second room we had smelled funky. Almost like stale smoke, but they have a very strict rule about smoking (they make you sign something). A part of the bed also smelled like musty towel.
- The bathroom was very small, but otherwise fine.

All in all, I might stay here again, especially since we Pricelined it for $100/night. Maybe I would request a second floor room next time.
