After arriving at about 1am in Maui at the cottages, Ken was there to greet us with a smile. The directions he gave made finding his secret getaway easy...even at 1am. Driving down his road at night for the first time was a little uneasy but safe. After taking a wonderfully warm shower we hit the pillow. (Ken as well as many hawaii citizens who live 'in the hills' catch their rain water ...which makes your hair and skin soooo soft).
In the morning he greeted us with freshly drilled cocoanuts to drink. Very good and sweet. The next day he provided us with Pineapple...best I've ever had. Picking fruit off his trees was also an option. He had Cuban Red Bananas, Oranges, Lemon and Lime, and others I can't remember.
Accomodations for the Banana Room was basically like a suite. Full size frigerator, 2 burner stove, sink, microwave. Double Bed, Sliding mirror closet, Fans available. Shower and Toilet just outside of your door. Shower provides a true jungle feel with wood slat platform you stand on. Did I mention the water is soft? Twin Falls is a must...and there are two ropes hanging from trees above...If you go there you MUST swing out from the ropes into the water. Once we took the plunge we couldn't get enough. My friend and I went there for the next and last 3 days of our trip just to have fun like we were little kids again....(Only I don't remember being sore when I was a kid after playing). An Experience not to be missed. The waterfalls were beautiful and serene. If you go take a picnic lunch and enjoy your surroundings. Then explore. Follow the creek as far as you can. You'll be wet anyway. By the way the water is cold, however refreshing if it's a warm day. 'Going home' each night after a day of shopping, surfing, swimming, whatever felt safe, comfortable, and relaxing. If you walk to Twin Falls from the B&B it's about 12-15minutes taking the road. I would suggest going to Twin Falls by way Ken tells you...( if you are physically able). You will see many more little waterfalls his way...takes maybe 30-45 minutes to get to falls then. A very worthy hike. Overall if/when I go back to Maui I will undoubtedly stay at Maui Aloha Cottages again. If you're looking for a relaxing atmosphere that feels like your own home...you'll find it staying with Ken. Which by the way he is a humble, gracious host!
Mahalo Ken, and Aloha!
