My husband and I stayed here for our 2nd part of our Honeymoon (1st staying at the Sheraton in Waikiki Beach, Oahu). When we first arrived we were greeted with Lei's and excellent service! The grounds are very big and we were escorted in a golf cart to our hotel room in Building 6. Building 6 is located ontop of Black Rock and the View of the ocean is just Breathtaking (You will see in my pictures). Of course I've read other reviews and yes, if you are on the 1st floor of building 6 you will not really have a direct view of the ocean, so be sure to ask for your room on the 2nd or 3rd floor of the building. The rooms are a nice size with a larger bathroom area and nice closet area too! The beds are comfy with lots of pillows, but I just wished for the linens to be a bit softer. They weren't terrible, but a bit rough. To get to the lobby area, or the pool/beach area it is a bit challenging at first but once you get the hang of it it's not bad. You have to go through multiple elevators and breezeways but it's a nice walk after a good dinner!
The pool area is so large there were always plenty of chairs and room to swim in the pool. The snorkeling is awesome around Black Rock so we actually bought our own equipment at the local ABC Store and rented flippers. I loved how the beach access was right there too, so we constantly went back and forth between the beach and pool. Just make sure you are wearing your Sheraton wristband for the pool area. There are also jugs of ice water stationed around the pool area which is nice for a quick drink without having to go to the bar. Which leads me right into the bar area, our only disappointing thing about the hotel. They have 2 bars by the pool, Mai Tai bar and the Cliff Dive bar. The Mai Tai is only open til 3 pm so if you are sitting by that section of the pool, once they close there aren't any more servers for that side of the pool. It's quite interesting that they close at 3 when most people are still hanging out by the pool. So if you want food/drink you have to go to the Cliff Dive Bar which claims to have a happy hour, but we never saw any happy hour specials? I think happy hour was from like 4-6 but there were not any food or drink specials, which usually happy hour means some sort of special. I heard the bartender say the same price for drinks that were already on the standard menu. So we didn't normally hang out too much for happy hour, but it is nice to watch the cliff dive cermony which can also be viewed closer if you go on the beach. The cliff dive cermony is every night so don't worry if you miss one night! It is certainly a cool thing to see while there!
The location is great and is close to Whalers Village which has 3 restaurants and tons of stores for shopping. There are also a few snack shops too if you want frozen yogurt or shaved ice or even pizza! We often went to Whaler's Village to walk around and there is a nice paved path from the hotel to the village along the beach. If you rent a car while here (highly recommended), then the town of Old Lahaina is also about 10 min down the road which is very cute and great for restaurants and shops as well (on Front Street).
One more quick thing is that the hotel has a resort fee, which we did not mind at all. Rather than paying for parking or internet service the fee is $25/day and includes that and much more. We were at another hotel that charged $15/day just to use their internet, so we thought this resort charge was fine (unless you don't have a laptop or a car so I could see why people would mind it), but if you know ahead of time, then you may as well make use of it!! We really enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton on Black Rock and would probably stay again unless we stayed in another section of Maui. It's quiet and very relaxing. The sunsets are amazing!!
