We just got back from a week long stay at Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club during the 4th of July weekend (couple with 3 kids -14, 10 & 9). We traded our Ko Olina villa with a 2 bedroom oceanfront villa at the new Lahaina Tower. I must say this resort is absolutely gorgeous.
The new Lahaina 2 bedroom villa has a full kitchen (stove/oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, blender, toaster and coffee maker), granite counters, ample utensils, plates, cups, bowls, etc, also has stacked washer/dryer. Has a dining area and a living room with a pull-out couch that transform to a queen bed. The living has a huge glass window that overlooks the beach. The master bedroom has king bed, large jet-tub and vanity, separate bathroom and shower. Also a sliding door that leads to a porch which also overlooks the beach and the resort grounds. The guest room (which can also be lock-out unit) has a king bed, a pull-out couch/queen bed, sitting area, sliding door with porch overlooking the beach, a mini-bar with microwave and mini-fridge, coffee maker, vanity, bath and shower/tub. The 2 bedrooms and the living room all have flat panel TV with dvd players.
Just below the Lahaina tower is a pretty good sized pool with waterfalls and jacuzzi. This pool is always less crowded than the main pool. Though the main pool is a lot bigger with slides, a pirate ship (which kids really like) and a number of water falls. There’s also another pool below the Napili tower which is also less crowded most of the time. Besides the Lahaina pool is a play structure for kids which is right next to the Lahaina parking structure adjacent to a tennis court.
The resort grounds are really gorgeous and well maintained. There are barbecue grills all over the place, however, securing one of them can be challenging during late afternoon hour when everybody wants to have barbecue for dinner. Longsboards restaurant is just right next to the main pool and they serve descent foods. They played live bands and had arts and crafts exhibits by the main pool on the 4th July while we were there.
Whalers Village is about 10 mins. walk along the Beachwalk from the resort. It has shops, more restaurants plus the Whalers Museum. Lahaina Cannery mall is about 5 minutes drive where there’s a grocery store that you can buy food to cook meals at your villa. If you’re looking for more shops drive down a couple more minutes to Lahaina town and there you will find a lot.
Back to the resort. Never had any problem with any of the resort staff, they were all friendly and willing to help anytime. One thing you should remember is that this is a time share resort, therefore, housekeeping is only done once a week. Can’t say much about the rooms on the Main tower (as I’ve never seen the inside of the rooms) but the rooms at Napili tower are pretty much the same to what I described above. Another thing to note is that parking garage for Lahaina tower is just right next to the villas. I heard people complain that parking for the Main and Napili towers are quite a walk away from their villas.
Other things to do: Drive up to Haleakala Crater - breathtaking view up there (half a day trip). Drive the road to Hana and be blown away by the scenery (whole day trip for us). Snorkel at Molokini Crater – great experience. Honolua Bay is also a great snorkeling site just a few minutes from the resort. Google Honolua Bay for more info. When you get down from the hiking path, go to the right side of the rocky beach – clear water, lots of fish (maybe turtle if you’re lucky). Have fun!
