This was a family holiday. I stayed for 6 nights and had expected something nicer and with better service. Landed at the Guam airport just past 2 am with my wife and baby, we were met by a rather stony-faced staff. Thinking it was too early for him, I gave him a big tip (even though we left Beijing some 10 hours earlier).
Check In - Was quick even though we were greeted by front desk, "checking out sir?" I replied "Er, no..checking in - we just arrived!"
The room - of good size, but the carpet was old and faded. The curtain was a drab and the furnishings are generally old.
The bathroom was definitely in need of refurbishing - everything from the tiles to taps look like they have been there since the hotel opened, God knows how long ago. The shower tap squeaks when turned. Those may be aesthetic but the toilet bowl was something else - it's one of those which is half-filled with water and splashes your bum when answering the call of nature. Don't you despise that?!
Housekeeping - We had to ask for a bath mat 2 days in a row. The third day, the used towels were taken by housekeeping but not replaced! The sheets were also not changed for 3 days until we complained. Housekeeping takes ages to clean even though we put the sign "make my room". So, basically it's very slow and inefficient.
The airconditioning - Noisy
The hotel does not have a kettle to boil water as I needed one to make milk for my baby. They only had a coffee maker which can boil water but with "coffee flavour".
Service - The phone rang out the first time when I tried to get some hot water after checking in to make milk for my baby. The second time, it took about 1 full minute to answer. I know it's 3 in the morning but hey, I just flew for 10 hours with my family and first impressions DO count!
Ok, I have no problems at the restaurant or other facilities. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful.
Well, other than that, the hotel is "nice and quiet". Soon, I understood why. Don't get me wrong, it's not a terrible hotel but certainly not meeting my standards or expectations of a hotel charging close to 200 bucks per night. A bit of a disappointment.
It's my first stay at Marriott and I will certainly have second thoughts about staying at another Marriott in the future. Frankly, we would have moved to the Hilton (which charges slightly lower rate) if not for the hassle and inconvenience with my baby. We had dinner at the Hilton for 3 nights in a row - Good food, great service and great atmosphere!
