Make sure to plan this into your visit to S.F. It is only open a few hours a week, and we managed to score great weather also. The hike down is steep but manageable. The trip thru the tunnel and over the new bridge is an experience for the whole family. The light house demonstration area is minimal, however you are there for the views. If you are really into the preserved lighthouses then you have to go to the Point Reyes National Seashore up the coast. That light house is much better.
