Spent two afternoons exploring the upper Haight to celebrate my 17 year old daughter's birthday. Disclosure: my daughter loves vintage resale, book stores, exploring music, street art,, and looking at unique art & jewelry. We aren't Into smoking anything, but we are tolerant & comfortable with all kinds of people.
This is a place worth experiencing & exploring. We found the people & shop owners welcoming, interesting, and happy to have us there. We could have sat and people watched all day, but we had shopping on the agenda & had a ball.
Tips for success:
-take the muni & get off at Clayton/Haight,& walk down
-there is a McDonalds at the top of Haight with a restroom; all of the cafes are happy to buzz you into their restrooms, as long as you buy a drink or snack, and the prices are excellent
-the Goodwill has the best prices, but the vintage shops are better curated and many are marked up, but have unique finds
-record and book stores here are great
