“Nothing Special”

Francisco Bay Inn

We (me, wife and 10 year old daughter) have just returned from a few days in SF staying at the Francisco Bay Inn. We selected this property based in large part on reviews here. Our criteria was being close to Fisherman's Wharf, cont. breakfast, double queen room and free parking!

The hotel is currently being worked on. It looks awful all covered in plastic and boards. The work itself did not affect us at all but it has taken away 30+ parking places in a small lot. Parking is very difficult at this time. If you don't find a spot, you need to leave your keys with the desk (open 24 hrs) and double park.

We were on the 4th floor. They told us right away that the elevator only goes to the third. We carried all of our stuff up the stairs. The room was okay but a bit cramped with two queen beds. Luckily it faced the back of the building because Lombard St is very busy and noisy. Lots of busses and traffic to hear. The bathroom was large and well lit. We had a fridge and microwave which was helpful.

The continental b'fast was pretty much nothing! A few sweets in a 2 foot area of the Office. Probably similiar to other places but we've had so much better lately at other hotels.

We were able to walk to the Wharf with our 10 year old but it is about a 15 minute hike. There are good eateries on Union St. three to four blocks away. We enjoyed Perry's, very family friendly.

The Exploretorium (sp?) is less than 10 minutes away by car with FREE parking. Don't miss this attraction!! City busses also run in that direction.

All in all, an average stay. I would skip it while the work is on. My guess is that we would try a different place next time.

“Nice Hotel but traffic noise deafening”

Stayed at the Francisco Bay Inn from March 22-25th, 2005. Pleasant enough hotel, front desk staff very friendly and helpful upon check in. Construction work currently going on throughout the entire hotel which was somewhat of a nuisance, especially for parking. Good hotel for the price, rooms clean, but not very spacious. Biggest complaint was the rush hour traffic noise in the mornings, so loud it woke us up each day and it was very difficult to get back to sleep. Had to resort to turning the air conditioner on full blast to drown out the traffic noise. We booked this hotel because of the oustanding reviews but we found it just average. Continental breakfast was nothing more than some small danishes in a basket and coffee which were all usually gone by 8:00 am (early bird gets the worm). Overall the noise was the biggest downfall, being right on busy Lombard Street with rooms 100ft. from the roadway doesn't allow for to many peaceful mornings.

“You Get More Than What You Pay for”

Francisco Bay Inn

I booked a room on-line at the Francisco Bay Inn, sight unseen for 3 reasons. One, THE PARKING IS FREE, two, the cost, and three, the proximity to what my husband & I wanted to do during our birthday and anniversary weekend.

I must say, as it got closer to time to drive from LA to San Francisco, I was nervous about staying at a place I'd never seen before. $222 for 3 nights & FREE Parking?

Well, when we arrived, yes there was construction going on at the motel, but we parked our car and never moved it until we left. Our room was on the back side of the motel and the room was quiet, exceptionally clean, and the bathroom was HUGE.

The desk person was extremely helpful in telling us what busses to catch to get where we wanted to go. Fisherman's Wharf is only a 15 minute bus ride away and Union Square is only a 25 bus ride away. We taxied to Haight Ashbury, and it only cost $12 (including the tip).
Although it was my 1st trip to San Francisco, my husband & I decided that whwn we take another drive up to San Francisco, we'll definitely stay at the Francisco Bay Inn again, & again, & again.

My Girlfriend and I stayed here for Valentines Day weekend. I couldn't be more satisfied. The staff was very friendly and helpful, given the quality of the rooms, I would have paid double what I paid ($75 a nite). But the best thing about this hotel is, they offer FREE PARKING!!!. Which is EXTREMELY rare to find in any downtown SF hotel. And not to forget, GREAT LOCATION. I'll definitley stay here on my next visit to SF.
