Conveniently located to the ballet and Hayes Valley, this restaurant offers a different cultural experience than most. I visited on 5/4/12 at approximately 5:30 pm and was surprised that I was the only cutomer. I was assured that they were open for business. People came in approximately an hour or so later.
Victor, my waiter, was very accomodating. He had several suggestions. The first was the eggplant salad, which consisted of fresh, mixed greens, tomatoes, and marinated eggplant. I enjoyed this very much.
The next recommendation was the red snapper. The fish was nicely prepared. The sides were rice, beans, and yucca flour. I asked about substituting one of those sides for a vegetable but I was told that this was not done. If you have vegetables, they are a la carte.
I also ordered the Brazilian specialty, feijoda completa, which is a stew of beans and meat. I mixed this with the rice and the yucca. I thought that the fish was much tastier and Victor encouraged me to have the fish here. He was right.
I found that what was prepared was done in a timely fashion. However, my recommendation would be for them to offer more vegetable options on the side instead of sides such as rice, beans, and yucca together. I think that the meal would be complemented better with a choice of vegetables for those of us who need this.
