Ok this hotel is definitely classy. The rooms were very pretty and clean. My issue was our first room. It was the cheapest available and so small that my head on the pillow was so close to the door, I would wake up with noise in the hallway. We upgraded to a suite and it was very very nice. Nothing I could complain about. Good service also, nice turn down, good housekeeping.
I personally am not too crazy about Union Square. It's very much a "down town" hotel and not a relaxing vacation hotel. That's the only reason I'd never come back to the Campton Place. Of course I wouldn't do the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons for the same reason. I'd much rather find some place in presidio or pacific heights area...I like to live like a local when I travel.
One thing we enjoyed in that area was this cool food market in the basement of the bloomingdales building (not sure what the real building name is). It's just down the street from Campton Place and had a lot of great food.
